As part of Distinguished Lecture Series, Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) and Amity ACM Student Chapter organized a special lecture on“Computation of Emotions” by Prof. (Dr.) Peter Robinson, Professor of Computer Technology and Deputy Head of the Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge,UK at Amity University Campus, Sector 125 Noida.
Dr. Abhay Bansal, Joint Acting Head-Amity School of Engineering and Technology;Prof. (Dr) K. M. Soni, Dy. Dean, Domain Engineering & Technology and Prof.(Dr.) M K Dutta, Additional Director ADET welcomed Prof. (Dr.) Peter Robinson.
During the occasion, Prof.(Dr.) Peter Robinson was conferred “Honorary Professorship” by Amity School of Engineering and Technology.
Delivering acceptance speech, Dr. Robinson expressed his delight and enormous pleasure in being bestowed “Honorary Professorship” at Amity. He appreciated the enthusiasm and intellect of Amity students and faculty members which, according to him, has enlivened the atmosphere of the University. He applauded young and dynamic Amity University for making giant strides within a short span after the inception
Delivering the lecture and sharing his views on “Computation of Emotions” with the gathering, Prof.(Dr.) Peter Robinson said that face is a spontaneous channel for the communication of social and emotional displays. He stressed that when people talk to each other, they express their feelings through facial expressions and non- verbal aspects of speech which include tone of voice, body postures and gestures and they even do this when they are interacting with machines. He opined that people respond better to people with facial expressions. He classified various kinds of emotions ranging from angry to happy, sad, excited, depressed to anxiety. He stressed that emotions are needed to be considered an important mode of communication between people and interactive systems. He shared with audience his ongoing research related to monitoring and studying of emotions and physiology in drivers while they are driving cars including Pleasure,Comfort, Concentrating, Bored, Uncertain, Discomforted and other emotions. He averred that human-computer and human-human communications can be improved since recent advances in computer technology allow machines to recognise and express emotions.
The lecture was attended by students and faculty members of Amity School of Engineering and Technology who posed a volley of questions to the speaker about his ongoing research and inferences that could be drawn out of it. Dr. Robinson answered all the questions elaborately.
