Amity Institute of Advanced Research and Studies (Material & Devices) and Amity Institute of Applied Sciences organise three days International Conference on “Recent Trends in Materials and Devices"
Amity Institute of Advanced Research and Studies (Material & Devices) -AIARS(M&D) and Amity Institute of Applied Sciences (AIAS), in collaboration with Non- Resident Indians (NRIs) started three days International Conference on“Recent Trends in Materials and Devices (ICRTMD-2015)” at Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, Sector-125, Noida.
Dr.V.K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, Former DG, DRDO and Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri; Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi -Georgia Institute of Technology, USA; Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group; Dr. (Mrs.) B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University; Dr Selvamurthy- President, Amity Science,Technology and Innovation Foundation; Prof.V K Jain-Distinguished Scientist & Professor AIRAE & AIARS (M&D) and Prof. Sunita Rattan -Additional Director, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences inaugurated the International Conference.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Prof. V K Jain- Distinguished Scientist & Professor AIRAE & AIARS (M&D) said that the International Conference will contribute a lot to the success of“Make in India” vision, promulgated by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. He briefed that over 460 Speakers and Delegates from India and abroad are attending the Conference which include NRI/PIO Scientists, Academicians,Technocrats and Professors and students. He expressed his hope that the Conference will provide an opportunity and a unique platform to discuss contemporary research and trends in the area of Materials and Devices and explore avenues to collaborate with NRI and PIO experts.
Sharing his views, the Chief Guest, Dr. V.K. Saraswat, Member, NITI Aayog, Former DG, DRDO and Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri outlined the perpetual struggle faced by Scientists and Researchers in finding right materials and devices for research. He stressed that India still has a dearth of high temperature devices needed for rocket launching and also Ceramic and Silicone materials. He remarked that though India has few Solar Power Panel Companies but silicon waffles are still imported and India cannot switch over to next generation photovoltaic cells unless and until it has a strong manufacturing base of silicon waffles in India. He averred that research and publications are important but publications should lead to products for societal benefit. He opined that material research and material processing research has to be accelerated in India in order to realize the vision of smart cities, Digital India and other ambitious projects. He remarked that vision alone will not help, efforts have to be put in for value addition in the area of photo-voltaics since a country doing active R&D in the area of Solar energy will be the winner in the future.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that it is very important for Indian scientists to commercialize their research in order to create value for the society. Dr. Chauhan emphasized that the synergy of Indian and Western Brains can lead to unfathomable results which are mutually benefiting for both the economies. He expressed his hope that the discussions and deliberation during the three day Conference will lead to long term, sustainable alliances.
Dr. Ajeet Rohatgi -Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, while sharing his views, said that there is nothing more satisfying than giving back to India and making an impact. Dr. Rohatgi remarked that there is no dearth of talent in India; the only thing needed is high caliber, competent and innovative R&D in manufacturing; which is possible through right financing and infrastructure. He stressed that most of the Scientists have risk aversion, therefore Government should come up with clear policy to incentivize excellence in R&D. He suggested that Indian Scientists should actively reach out to their counterparts abroad for collaborative R&D, which should be encouraged by the Government. He stressed that India should establish centers of excellence focusing on industry relevant R&D specific to India where differentiated products have to be constantly innovated.
During the Conference, various sessions on “Carbon: The Soul of Future Nanoelectronics”, “Smart Biosensors and Bioelectronics for healthcare”, “Carbon Nano Tube based Chemical Sensor Technology”, “Oxide Materials for Energy Efficient Electronics Applications”, “Organic Electronics: The way forward” and many others will be conducted.
