3,500 Graduands conferred Degrees and Diplomas during First Day of 11th Convocation of Amity University Noida

11th Convocation of Amity University which is spread over three consecutive days-wherein more than 12,000 successfully qualified Graduands of several Programs would receive their UG and PG Degrees, Diplomas, Trophies and Medals commenced today.

 

During the first day, a total of 3,500 Graduands from Science, Engineering& Technology, Life Sciences and Biotechnology Domains received their Degrees and Diplomas. Around 226 meritorious Graduands received Gold,Silver and Bronze Medals, Corporate Awards and Salvers.

 

The grandeur procession comprising of Trustees of the Board, Senior Members of the Management, Head of the Institutions, Departmental Heads and Senior Faculty members entered the Convocation Hall accompanied by the band of pipers humming the traditional celebration song, marking the commencement of the Grand event.

Blessing the graduands, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that the alumni of Amity are distinguished and addressed them as Amity’s Amazing Achievers. He motivated the students to dream big with open eyes. He advised graduands to instill self-confidence in them which will help them reach the pinnacle of success. He shared that Amity’s environment is enthused with rich Indian values and traditions, ethics and ethos and behavioral skills,which makes students not only thorough professionals but also good human beings. Dr. Chauhan asked the graduands to imbibe humility and develop a pragmatic approach in their lives which will aid them to run miles on track of success.

During the convocation, eminent personalities including Dr. G Satheesh Reddy-Scientific Advisor to Raksha Mantri- Ministry of Defence, Government of India and Dr. Soumya Swaminathan- Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research and Secretary, Department of Health Research were conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees in Science.

Dr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh declared the 2015batch of 11thConvocation open.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh  presented a brief report of the University in which she touched upon key achievements and initiatives that have been taken during the year 2014-2015 including new programmes launched in cutting edge technologies,breakthrough research work done by Scholars and Researchers, various research projects given to Amity by Department of Science and Technology and several ministries of Government, research papers presented by faculty members in National and International Conferences and Seminars and other milestones achieved by Amity University. She highlighted that it is the perseverance, hard work and dedication of Amitians which resulted in achieving the glorious milestones. Dr. Shukla congratulated the graduands and wished them luck in their future endeavors. In conclusion she quoted that great opportunities come to those who makes most of small ones.

During his acceptance speech, Dr. G Satheesh Reddy expressed his gratitude to entire Amity fraternity for bestowing the honor on him and said, “It is a great privilege to receive honoris causa from Amity University which is the first private university that has seen such an exponential growth in a decade time.” He lauded Dr. Ashok K Chauhan for his passion, commitment and dedication towards the country and its growth by building knowledge economy. Dr. Reddy remarked that any country which has to progress needs to be academically very sound. He further pointed that it can be achieved when three major institutes are in synergies which are educational institutes, research institutes and industry. He apprised that in today’s world scenario, countries are becoming economically strong due to technological achievements but these technological advancements are the result of academic institutions since they lay the basic foundation of research. Dr. Reddy opined that innovation is the need of the hour as without innovation, no country would be able to produce sustained reliable products. He expressed his wish for Amity to become an engine of innovations and be amongst the top universities of globe.

Accepting the Honorary Doctorate, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan said, “It is my privilege to receive the Honorary Doctorate from Amity University which has been playing an important role by developing potential and talent of thousands of students.”She commended Amity for providing global education to students with vision of excellence and success and also persuading them towards the field of research.She stressed that it needs to be kept in mind that it is the people who build the institutions or university and not just infrastructure, bricks or mortar hence, human capacity have to be inspired and should be of highest quality. She mentioned that the people must be given a free environment to think as that forms the base for innovation. Dr. Swaminathan appraised that in earlier times,questioning to a professor was not encouraged but today, things have changed as professors and students have an interactive relationship which helps on nurturing the talent as per the individual. She mentioned that we are living in a world of technology which offers easy access to huge amount of latest information but it also possess a danger of over flooding of information. She advised the graduands to be selective in information exposure and to proceed in depth knowledge in certain areas only. Dr. Swaminathan congratulated graduands for completion of their degree and encouraged them to have a goal on making life better for oneself and fellow citizens.

During the second day of convocation, over 3000 Graduands from management domain will receive their Degrees and Diplomas.
