The National Law Institute University, Bhopal wins Amity International Moot Competition

In support to Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi’s Digital India campaign, Amity Law School Noida conducted its first E-MOOT in India at Amity Campus, sector 125 Noida. The moot court completion concluded today with the valediction ceremony.

After meticulous deliberations and arguments, The National Law Institute University, Bhopal emerged as the Amity international Moot Court Competition.

The team bested a total of 38 teams who participated in the competition across the globe such as Dr. Ambedkar College, Dept. of Law, Nagpur; Nepal Law Campus,Kathmandu, Nepal; Army Institute of Law, Mohali; Nalsar University of law,Hyderabad; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; Vivekananda Law School, Delhi; Amity Law School, Noida; NMIMS, Mumbai and Sri Lanka law College, Colombo amongst others.

This year, moot-competition deliberated on the problem based on political unrest in the fictional state of Redland, which took a turn for the worse when the government engaged in crimes against humanity for the sake of bringing the political situation back under control. This led to severe political black lash and an increased number of protests, the situation spiraled out of control at such great speed that other nations began showing concern and the UN had to intervene.

The valediction ceremony witnessed the presence of Hon’ble Justice Rajeev Bhalla, Mr. Siddharth Luthra, Sr. Advocate,Hon’ble Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group; Maj. Gen. Nilendra Kumar, Director, Amity Law School Noida and Dr. Shefali Raizada, Dy. Director, Amity Law School, Noida.

During his speech, Hon’ble Justice RajeevBhalla commended Amity for inculcating professional skills in students and making them profession-ready. He apprised that the moot proposition mirrors the current situation the world is facing and replay of the current enactment could happen in future if not resolved properly. Stating his views on Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression, Justice Bhalla said that the right to freedom of Speech and Expression is under attack and there is an urgent need for an exceptional dose of tolerance, which law colleges are required to teach to the budding professionals. He opined that a mature society is judged by the voice of oppressed and not by GDP. He called upon the young generation to voice their opinions fearlessly, or else they will be accused of not standing for the right of freedom and speech. “A babble of voice is much preferable than the silence of grave. Hence, every individual has a role to play for the growth of society and mankind. The young budding lawyers will determine the future of country and growth of law profession as both are interlinked because laws are made by the judges and lawyers for harmony and peace.” opined Justice Bhalla. 

Hon’ble Justice Sanjeev Sachdevaremarked three points for a successful argument to the budding professionalsincluding making use of favorable material by bringing the attention of judgeto the particular points and facts; presenting judge a roadmap of yoursubmission and being confident in your advocacy. He averred that the professionof law is called as the temple of justice and the lawyer is a connectionbetween the court and the people. Hence, lawyers must have an methodicalapproach with ethics and morals intact.

Addressingthe gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan said,“Today is an historic day as Amity in sync with e-governance has organized thefirst e-moot in India to take the country forward.” He apprised that participating in Moot Court is an ideal way for budding lawyers to further improve the written and oral advocacy skills. He remarked that the moot proposition for this year was very apt with the current global scenario and had been effectively designed on established principles of international humanitarian law and refugee law which provided participants with a panorama of unconventional along with extraordinary legal issues to delve upon. He averred that such moot competitions prove to be a riveting experience for the participants to interpret and analyze the intricacies of various laws.

Sharing his views on legal profession, Mr. Siddharth Luthra said that Moot court is a very important activity for law students as it instills confidence in them and nurture them from oralists to remarkable speakers. He further highlighted the qualities required in a lawyer and pointed that courteousness is one of the most important factors for the budding lawyers. He advised the participants to practice in the Trial Courts as it will imbibe the qualities like alertness, Robust Commonsense and alacrity in them. He apprised that being polite and humble always pays.

During the competition, Army Institute of Law Mohali; Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala; Hidyatullah National university of Law (HNLU), Raipur and National Law Institute University, Bhopal contested for semifinals. The rounds witnessed the knowledge of budding lawyers with Army Institute of Law Mohali and National Law Institute University, Bhopal vying in finals.

Presenting superlative legal skills, Mr. Vikram Amrawanshi, The National Law Institute University, Bhopal bagged the award for“Best Researcher”; the award for “Best Counsel” was presented to Ms. Sneha Poddar– University School of Law & Legal Studies, GGSIPU, Delhi and National Law University, Cuttack, Odisha won the trophy of “Best Memorial”. The team of Army Institute of Law, Mohali was the first Runner Up
