“Amity 4 Digital India launch Week” marks the beginning of Digital India Programme in Amity
Insync with the “Digital India” Campaign started by Hon'ble Prime Minister ofIndia, Amity University announced “Amity 4 Digital India Launch Week” on thetheme “Abate Digital Divide” in University Campus, Sector- 125, Noida to markthe beginning of “Digital India” related activities and events by the students inAmity University throughout the year.
ShriSrinath B.J.- DG, ICERT, Dept. of Electronics& IT, Ministry of Communications & IT, Govt. of India, Mr. SunilSharma, Sr. GM, Projects & Finance, National e-Governance Division,Dept. of Electronics & IT , Ministry of Communications & IT, Govt. ofIndia and Mr. Mukesh Sareen- Dy. General Manager, IT Department, AirIndia Ltd. inaugurated “Amity 4 Digital India Launch Week”.
Welcomingthe distinguished gathering, Dr. K M Soni- Deputy Dean, Engineering andTechnology, Amity University shared that Digital Indiaprogramme was launched by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India on 1st July 2015 toreform governance through technology, to prepare India for a knowledge futureby making every household and every individual digitally empowered. He informedthat since academia plays a very important role in bringing the reforms, UGChas requested all Universities and Institutions to pursue the Digital Indiaactivities. Amity University has, thus, scheduled a week starting fromSeptember 14, 2015 as Amity 4 Digital India Launch Week and subsequently,various events related to the field would be organized throughout the year inAmity.
Addressingthe gathering, Shri Srinath B.J. - DG, ICERT, Dept. of Electronics& IT, Ministry of Communications & IT, Govt. of India said thatalthough “Digital India” is conceived and executed by Government but itincludes everyone. He stressed that in a country like India, the role oftechnology and the impact it had on the lives of the people is very important.Technology is changing the lives of people, shaping the society and therefore,everyone is looking up to “Digital India” as a source of social reformation inIndia. Highlighting the grim side of technology advancement he stressed thattechnology, sometimes complicates our lives and makes people completelydependent on technological devices like phones, laptops etc. “Hanging on totechnology is a double edged sword and in the field of technology, even to staywhere one is, he/she is suppose to persistently run and catch hold of newupdations”, averred Shri Srinath
Sharingher views, Dr. (Mrs.) B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity Universityhighlighted that Amity has been using latest technology to the advantage ofstudents and faculty members and has been leveraging technology for the benefitof all. She stressed that technology is one such powerful tool which could beused with equal ease by a person who has not even gone to school. Technology issuch an enabler that it such not differentiate. She called upon the youth tojoin hands and spread the message of Digital Literacy amongst the masses, sincethe country has great hopes from the youth brigade.
Addressingthe gathering, Mr. Sunil Sharma, Sr. GM, Projects & Finance,National e-Governance Division, Dept. of Electronics & IT, Ministry ofCommunications & IT, Govt. of India said that 21st centuryis a “Knowledge Economy” where all the Institutions look forward to three basicprinciples- “Simplicity in all the processes”, “Enhanced speed” and “Quickresolution of all the problems”. Digital India, he stressed, addresses theintegration as well as connectivity side of these three principles. Heexplained that Digital India mission is much more than Internet and Wi-fi andfocuses on Technology being central to enabling change in all the spheres oflife. He briefed audience that the entire Philosophy of Digital India iscentred on three areas- “Digital Infrastructure as a utility to every Citizen”,“Governance and Services on Demand” and “Digital empowerment of Citizens”. He informed audienceabout the 9 pillars of Digital India including “Broadband Highways”, “UniversalAccess”, “National Rural Internet Mission”, “eKranti”, “eGovernance” and others. He calledupon the youth to contribute in “Digital India Mission” through volunteering,writing blogs and spreading the message of Digital Literacy which would lead tospeedy success of Digital India mission.
Mr.Mukesh Sareen- Dy. General Manager, IT Department, AirIndia Ltd shared his views on “AbatingDigital Imbalance”, reasons for Digital Imbalance and ways to bridge the same.
Dr. Alpana Kakkar, Dy. Dean Students’ Welfare, Amity University proposed the vote of thanks.
Duringthe ceremony, students and faculty members pledged themselves to the causeof Digital Literacy to enable the fellow countrymen to prosper and to have abetter standard of living.
