Three day Workshop on “Engineering Education without Borders” concluded at Amity
Amity School of Engineering & Technology (ASET) organized a three day workshop on theme “Engineering Education without Borders” in collaboration with IUCEE-SPEED at University campus, sector 125, Noida.
The aim of the workshop was to spur the students to think and focus more on how they can work more in synergy and accelerate the process of improving the quality of imparted engineering education and research in India.
The three day workshop ended today with valedictory ceremony been attended by Mr.Vivardhan Rao, Student Facilitator, IUCEE SPEED, RSF-2015; Prof. (Dr.)Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, AUUP; Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation and Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Bansal ,Joint Acting Head ASET.
During the workshop, 8 teams comprising of 45 participants competed with each other wherein teams were divided into three categories with different themes including Track 1:”Engineering and Engineer”, Track 2: “Reimagining Engineering Education in and out of Classroom” and Track 3; “Knowledge Networking through Collaborative Learning”. Enumerating the problems and issues, the participants had to pitch innovative ideas and accordingly create action plans in form of presentation which were adjudged by the Facilitators of IUCEE-SPEED.
During the three day workshop, the teams were posed with various challenges and real time problems which they had to solve through brain storming sessions,technical skills, creativity, poster making etc.
The winners were Ms. Anshika Sharma, Ms. Sobia Amin, Ms. Arti Tiwari, Ms. PalakKhurana and Ms. Surbhi Gupta of Team 2 for their presentation under Track 1;Ms. Sumati Manchanda, Ms. Tanvi Anand, Ms. Rekha Pal, Mr. Litesh Gupta, Ms.Nitika Gupta, Ms. Varsha parashat and Mr. Manpreet Singh of Team 2 under Track 3 and Mr. Aman Kapoor, Mr. Jitin Bahari, Ms. Pragati, Mr. Abhinav and Mr. Adiv Vikram Singh of Team 5 under Track 3.
Sharing his views during the ceremony, Mr. Vivardhan Rao said “the purpose of this workshop was to stimulate leadership qualities and positive educational growth in engineering students by empowering their ability to create the necessary change for their professional growth.” He apprised that IUCEE wants to create an impact of engineering education in a positive manner as engineering is considered a difficult educational option. He stressed that the workshop inculcated personal skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills and teamwork in the students which will help them in their profession life.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla said that the workshop has brought a transformation amongst the participating students and since it was onthe lines of outcome based education, it will help students map their career.She averred that knowledge is not what you read in books but what makes you think, henceforth practical application through such workshops are necessary for holistic growth. She called upon students to utilize the learning opportunities provided to them as in the present time, there is an intense competition in industry.
A participating student, Mr. Manpreet Singh, II Year M. Tech shared his experience and said, “I am glad that Amity in association with IUCEE-SPEED conducted this workshop as it provide us a platform to exploit our innovativeness by ingraining skills, knowledge and creative ideas.” He highlighted on the aspects that the workshop has provided an exposure on how wide and dynamically a person can think which will aid to map the career graph systematically.
During the valediction ceremony, launch of Amity IUCEE Chapter was announced by the dignitaries.
Student Platform for Engineering Education Development (SPEED) has been organizing workshops in India since 2009. SPEED has collaborated with Indo US Collaboration of Engineering Education (IUCEE) in 2013 and has conducted 5 workshops last year. Networks for collaborations have been created between faculty from over 250 US faculty members and 50 US institutions resulting in a wide variety of research and teaching collaborations.
