International Conference on Special Functions & Their Applications – ICSFA 2015 organized at Amity University
Department of Mathematics, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences in association with Society for Special Functions and Applications(SSFA) started “International Conference on Special Functions & Their Applications – ICSFA 2015 & Symposium on Fractional Calculus& its Applications to Special Functions (ICSFA-2015)”at Amity University, Noida, Sector 125 Campus.
The three day conference aims at bringing together Scientists, Academicians and Scholars to share latest innovations in the area of special functions and to explore opportunities for Research, and academic collaborations in the area.
The Conference was inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. Shegeru Kanemitsu, Kindai University, Japan; Prof. A.M. Mathai, McGill University, Canada; Prof. A.K. Agarwal, President & Editor-in Chief SSFAand Prof. (Dr). Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh.
Sharing his views on Mathematics and Special Functions, Prof. Shegeru Kanemitsu said that mathematics is the great innovation for human beings and a base for Science. He briefed that Applied Mathematics deals with mathematical concepts and techniques used in various fields of Science and Engineering. He stressed that mathematics is a subject of reasoning and many functions related to other subjects are connected with mathematics. He highlighted that with time, Maths has become important in various subjects including Biology, Geology, Economics, Business etc. He further added that with the coming of computer age, applied mathematics transcended its traditional style by assuming an even greater importance and a new vitality. Prof. Kanemitsu called upon the students to extend their horizons by moving forward from general applications and invent new solutions for problems.
Enlighteningt he audience, Prof. A.M. Mathai said that applied mathematics has evolved with time and now has become integral part of various subjects and professions. He recalled that in earlier times, there had been routine type of generalization of special functions which resulted in the low reputation of the profession. He emphasized that with special functions, problem solving has become easier that has lead to development of many areas including Science, Engineering etc. He mentioned that Special functions have enabled to formulate scientific solutions to myriad problems and new as well as more concrete problem can be solved within a well-structured framework. Prof. Mathai advised students to improve their research work on modern areas of special functions instead of doing generalization.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Balvinder Shukla said that modern Engineering and physical science applications demand a thorough knowledge of Applied Mathematics, particularly in special functions. She apprised participants that the aim of ICSFA is to provide a common platform and a stimulating forum for scholars from different parts of the country. She expressed her hope that the conference will inspire young researchers to pursue the important branch of Mathematical sciences and it will also provide an opportunity for the participants to interact with eminent researchers and to develop potential collaborative partnerships.
During the occasion, Souvenir was released by the Chief Guest and dignitaries. The conference received around 200 abstracts across the globe.
During the three day conference, various plenary sessions, invited talks and oral presentations will be conducted.
