Amity associates with Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) to offer skill oriented programme in “Quality Assurance”
Department ofMechanical and Automation Engineering, Amity School of Engineering &Technology in association with Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) launchedskill oriented programme in the area of “Quality Assurance” for Undergraduatestudents at Amity University, Sector-125, Noida.
Dr SK Chaturvedi, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive SkillsDevelopment Council (ASDC) Indiaformally launched the programme in the presence of Mr. Rajiv Malhotra, VicePresident, Motherson Techno Tools Ltd, Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University andLt Gen PD Bhargava, Group Dy Vice Chancellor, Amity University.
Addressing the gathering,Lt Gen PD Bhargava, Group Dy Vice Chancellor thanked ASDC and Dr SKChaturvedi for their immense support and cooperation in launching the programmeand shared that the programme is an initiative by Amity towards “Skill India”and “Make in India” campaigns initiated and promoted by Hon’ble Prime Ministerof India. He announced that with this stupendous achievement, AmityUniversity has become the first University in India to skill graduates for jobroles defined by respective Sector Skill Councils. He informed that onsuccessful completion of the programme, the students will get Certificates withthe emblem of Government of India along with the logo of National SkillDevelopment Council (NSDC) and ASDC. He averred that the Certificatewould give an edge to their profiles since the course curriculum is designed bythe industry and the courses are promoted by the Government of India. He sharedthat very soon, ten other skill oriented programmes will be formally launchedin Amity University in association with respective Skill Councils.
Addressing the students, Dr. Chaturvedi expressed his joy overthe association between ASDC and Amity both of which stand for excellence inrespective domains. He asserted that in India, employability is much talkedabout issue especially with India having world’s largest young population.He shared that being employable could help a person to fill up his stomach butwealth for India will be created through “Innovation” and the creation of“Intellectual Property”. He emphasized that the skill oriented programmesdevised by ASDC will help in accelerating the pace of Innovations and R&Din India.
“In India, majority ofthe people suffer from ‘DWJ-JWD Syndrome’ which means “Degree Without Job andJob Without Degree”. Most of the people in India with Degrees, do not have Jobsand those who have Jobs, do not have relevant Degree or Training in the samefield. The mis-match is of huge proportion in India, as compared to Germany andJapan where over 75% of people have jobs matching their education and training.In India, students choose programmes for fulfilling social objectives ratherthan their own career aspirations”, asserted Dr. SK Chaturvedi
Sharing his views on theimportance of “Industry Interaction”, Dr. Chaturvedi opined that IndustryInteraction should not be reduced to “Industry Tourism” wherein studentsvisit Industry, look at new systems and procedures and come back to educationalinstitutions, forgetting about everything. He proposed educational institutionsto make Industry visits “Project Oriented” so that students could be engagedand learn the skills rather than just looking around.
Talking about theAutomotive Industry, he shared that over 14% of Indian Automotive products areexported and numbers are increasing. Indian share of global automotive tradeindustry is meager 2-3%, offering lot of scope for expansion in years to comealong with the creation of lot of job opportunities for the youth.
Mr. Rajiv Malhotra, VicePresident, Motherson Techno Tools Ltd. appreciated skill oriented programmelaunched by Amity and ASDC and expressed that the programme will go a long wayin preparing Amity students as per the requirements of industry and it willbrighten their employment prospects.
Prof Vivek Kumar- HoD,Mechanical and Automation Engineering Department provideda brief overview of the Programme and informed that 250 students haveenrolled for the same.
Also present during theoccasion were Prof. K M Soni- Deputy Dean, Engineering and TechnologyDomain, Prof. Abhay Bansal- Joint Acting Head, Amity School of Engineering andTechnology and other faculty members from Mechanical and Automation EngineeringDepartment.
