ISTE Chapter at Amity University, Noida organized an Expert Talk on “Role of Technical Education in Make in India” by Prof. Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai - President, ISTE, India at Amity University Campus,Sector-125, Noida

Prof. (Dr.) K.M. Soni - Deputy Dean,Engineering & Technology welcomed the distinguished dignitaries and provided a brief overview of ISTE as a professional body. He shared that ISTE works in India to meet the global challenges in the field of Engineering. He stressed that Indian Engineers can transform India through their skill and knowledge and opined that ISTE has been contributing immensely towards “Make in India” initiative.

Prof. Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai - President, ISTE, India delivered an inspiring talk on “Role of Technical Education in Make in India”. During his keynote address, he said that Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is the leading national, professional, non-profit Society for improving the technical education system in our country with the motto of career development of teachers and personality development of Students. He shared that at present,ISTE has a very large and an effective membership base consisting of more than 1,02,985 Life Members, 5,54,094 Student Members,  2410 Institutional Members (including IITs, IISc.., NITs and other leading technical institutions), 1214 Faculty Chapters and 1322 Students’ Chapters and 17 Sections throughout the country.   

 

In Indian context, employability and quality of Engineers is of concern. Prof.  Pratapsinh Kakaso Desai emphasized that it is necessary to create real technocrats by providing practical and industry oriented knowledge, not merely theoretical knowledge. It is necessary to nurtureto foster innovation and research orientation amongst the budding professionals,apart from good communication skills.

 

He stressed that only a few (approximately top 250) institutions in India are providing quality technical education and rest (4250 approximately) are not achieving these standards. He called upon the faculty members and institutions to strive hard to produce real Engineers, so that “Make in India” Initiative may be achieved by 2020.

Prof.Sachin R. Jambhale–Member National Executive council, ISTE, Dr. K. Manivannan,Vice President, ISTE & Prof. Vivek Kumar, Head of Department, MAE, ASET,Amity University also graced the occasion.
