For over 20 years, the International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) has been teaching industrial skills to high school students the world over. ISSDC puts high school students in the shoes of aerospace industry engineers as they design a city in space, apt for housing over 10,000 people. Students are guided to base their design on reasonable interpretations of the level of existing technology, the laws of Physics and common sense. The qualifying round of the competition requires the students to create a 40-page proposal which includes precise details about the various factors that need to be tackled for constructing a space settlement.Every year, 2 teams from Asia are selected to compete with 10 other teams from the world during Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition (ARSSD),the Asian Semifinals for the competition.

The proposal sent by the team from Amity International School, Noida in the Qualifying Round was one of the best amongst those sent from all over the world. During the Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition (ARSSDC) held at Om Shanti Retreat near Manesar from Jan 29 –Feb 1, 2015, students from Amity International School, Noida demonstrated astonishing creativity, technical competence, management skills, space environment knowledge, teamwork along with great presentation techniques to design a space colony in the cycler Orbit around Earth and Mars.
