STUDENTS OF AMITASHA LEARN CULINARY SKILLS

Amity School of  Hospitality  conducted the two week short term CulinaryCertificate Program for 35 Amitasha students at Amity School of Hospitality,Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

*Amitasha is an initiative under the of Dr. AmitaChauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools; which provides freeeducation, uniforms, books, meals and healthcare to underprivileged girls.

The programmme concluded today withthe Valedictory Function which was attended by Ms. Rashmi Singh, Executive Director, National Resource Centre forWomen (NRCW), National Mission for Empowerment of Women, Ministry of Women& Child Development and Mrs. Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, AmityInternational Schools who were theChief Guests for the occasion.

Also, a galaxy of eminentEducationists and professionals from the hotel industry such as Ms. Monica Jaiswal, HR Manager, Fortune InnGrazia, Noida; Mr. Jagdeep Chauhan, Director, JW Marriot; Mr. Yogesh Sharma, HR& Training Manager, Crown Plaza, Greater Noida; Chef Aroop Sartaj,Executive Chef, Crown Plaza, Greater Noida were present to boost the moraleof Amitasha students

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Vaskar Sengupta, Deputy Director, AmitySchool of Hospitality said that two-weekShort Term Culinary Art Programme was conceptualized by Amity School ofHospitality and Amitasha to provide opportunities for students to cook andlearn about nutrition in a fun, safe and happy environment. He further addedthat, during the workshop, in order to provide skill based teaching, thestudents were divided into two groups to attend cooking and bakery classesalternatively. The workshop helped the students to learn the nuances of cookingand food preparation skills and they are now well versed with the terminologyof culinary art.

During the Occasion, Ms. Rashmi Singh said that from ancient time, there has been aconception that girls will play only with dolls or they have limited study andcareer opportunities but that stereotypical thoughts are changing due toinitiatives like Amitasha which gives an opportunity to all girl students tofulfill their dreams and scale greater heights. “Girls are the treasure of aNation. There are lot of debates and talks on Gender Equality or GenderStereotype during the International Conferences or Seminars but here atAmitasha, they are practiced at ground level. A Law or Act alone cannot ensure genderequality; the need to provide comprehension education to the female students alongwith regular curriculum that will help them in long run.” she opined. She alsosaid that the presentation of food reflects the passion and hard work involved bythe students.

Appreciating the Chefs, Faculty and students,Mrs. Amita Chauhan said that theworkshop provided girl students an exposure to the working environment of aprofessional kitchen. She further added that the programme could have beensuccessful with the support of the people associated with it. The Chefs notonly taught the cookery skills to students but also encouraged and motivatedthem to cook well. The dishes presented by the students had a similar taste tothat of the food in 5 star hotels.

Certificates were presented to the studentsby Ms. Rashmi Singh, Mrs. Amita Chauhan,Ms. Sapna Chauhan, Vice-Chairperson AmiOwn and other eminent personalities.

During the occasion, the students presentedthe sumptuous dishes to the guests which were cooked by them.
