Amity Law School, Centre-II organizedan International Conference on “Human Trafficking: A Socio-Legal Facet ofModern World” at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.
Welcomingthe distinguished guests, Prof. MamtaSrivastava, Additional Director, Amity Law School, Centre-II highlightedthe achievements of the Institution. Sharing her views on the topic of theConference, She said, “Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminalindustry in today’s world. India has become a source, destination and transitcountry for men, woman and children trafficked for forced labour and commercialsexual exploitation. A trend line of incidents of human trafficking shows asteady rise during 2009–2013. From 2,848 cases relating to human traffickingreported during 2009, it rose to 3,422 cases in 2010.It further rose to 3,517cases in 2011, 3,554 cases in 2012 and 3,940 cases in 2013.” She expressed herhope that discussions and deliberations during the Conference will lead toimportant suggestions which could be adopted to fight this menace in thecountry.
Deliveringinaugural address, Prof. U. P. Sinha,Vice Chancellor, Central University of Haryana, highlighted the main issuesrelated to human trafficking and explained the measures through which this heinouscrime could be prevented.
Mr. Anil Chowdhary, Retired IPSOfficer shared his own experiences related to humantrafficking and called for creating awareness amongst the masses about humantrafficking and the solutions to address this crime.
Ms. Roma Debabrata, President, STOP(NGO) shared her views by highlighting the role of Civilsociety in prevention and rehabilitation of victims of trafficking and theirfamilies. She also mentioned that States should encourage gender sensitizationand education on equal footing between sexes so that violence against women canbe prevented and laid great emphasis on a strong and effective network ofStates for better implementation of the prevention, protection andrehabilitation schemes and policies of State Governments.
Mr. O. P. Vyas, Registrar (Law),NHRCshared his views on the role of National Human Rights Commission in promotingand protecting the rights of human trafficking victims.
Mr. R. S. Goswami -Advocate andFormer Chairperson - Bar Council of Delhi encouraged thelaw students to initiate and actively participate in combating humantrafficking since it is the primary duty of every citizen.
Justice S. N. Dhingra, RetiredJudge, Delhi High Court acquainted the participants with thelegal aspects of human trafficking, the available remedies and enforcement mechanisms.
Mr. Sabir Ali, Former Member ofParliament enlightened the participants by making them awareof the measures to be taken at grass root level to stop this menace.
Dr. Arun Kumar, Hon’ble Member ofParliament shared the current scenario of human trafficking inIndia and in other countries. He assured the participants that he will do hisbest in curbing this horrendous crime and also assured the active participationat government level to provide support to the victims for their rehabilitation.
Duringthe Inauguration, Conference Proceedings were released by distinguished guestsalong with Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Singh, Dean, Faculty of Law, Amity University,Uttar Pradesh and Prof. Mamta Srivastava, Additional Director, Amity LawSchool, Centre-II.
Technical sessions saw humungous participation;over 64 research papers were presented by the researchers, academicians, andlawyers, highlighting new and innovative measures to control Human Trafficking.The technical session was judged by erudite jury members comprising of Mr. Himanshu Talwar, Advocate, Prof. GulamYazdani, Jamia Millia Islamia, Prof. Qazi M. Usman, Jamia Millia Islamia, Mr.Vivek Agrawal, Advocate, Prof. Eqbal Hussain, Jamia Millia Islamia, Mrs.Dhanesh Malik, Legal Consultant & Advocate, Delhi High Court, Prof. S.Radha, National Law University, Delhi, Mr. Sunil Chaturvedi, Advocate, Mr.Adrian Phillips, Director (Legal), Justice and Care (NGO) and Ms. Neerja Joshi,Immigration Consultant
Duringthe Concluding Ceremony of the Conference, Best Paper Presenter were awarded Trophies
The Drama Society of ALS-II – “Darpan’performed a skit named “PRIYA” based on Human Trafficking issue , callingupon the audience to take initiative toexterminate this crime from the society.
