Nalsar, Hyderabad declared as the Winner Team for Amity International Moot Court Competition
Three day International Moot Court Competition organized by Amity Law School, Delhi concluded today at Amity campus, Sector, 125, Noida with the team from NALSAR University of Law,Hyderabad was declared as the winners of the Competition. The Moot Competition witnessed the participation of more than 28 teams from Law Institutions, Colleges and Universities worldwide.
The moot problem of this year’s competition was themed on ‘International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law’. The proposition essentially centered on the contemporary dispute of two neighboring countries that led to a war harming the civilians of both the nations. This issue focused on the International Human Rights,International Humanitarian Law and Refugee Law. The teams competed against each other as the prosecutor and defendant of the parties.
The winners were felicitated by the Chief Guest Mr. Shekhar Dutt. SM, IAS (Retd.), Former Defence Secretary and Ex-Governor of Chhattisgarh; Guest of Honor Dr. Tushar Mehta, Additional Solicitor General, Supreme Court of India; Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group; Maj Gen Nilendra Kumar, Director,Amity Law School and Dr. Upinder Dhar, Additional Group Vice Chancellor, Amity University.
Welcoming theguests, Maj Gen Nilendra Kumar shared that the International Moot Court Competition was aimed at familiarizing budding lawyers with the actual court proceedings thereby honing their skills of formulating and presenting legal arguments before a panel of legal luminaries. It provided an enriching experience to participants as well as observers.
Guest ofHonor Dr. Tushar Mehta advised the budding lawyers to take the profession sincerely. He further added that Senior Lawyers are seeking the assistance of the young lawyers; hence, they shouldn't be in a myth that it is not possible to achieve a good career at early stages. He also encouraged the students to realize the power of their legal education as they are going to be the future policy makers of the country.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok Chauhan said that education can never be completed inside the four walls of classrooms, it is necessary to go beyond to create occasions where students can convert theoretical knowledge to practical and Moot Courts are excellent forums which give opportunity to budding lawyers to sharpen the skills required in Law profession. He expressed that the students who are actively participating in such competitions are going to be successful in the professional world.
Impressed with the arguments of the participants, Chief Guest Mr. Shekhar Dutt said that a country can handle any challenge with the presence of such young legalbrains and talents. He further added that law is logic and it is the talent ofthe legal professional to convince others about his logic through effective arguments. He called upon the budding lawyers to identify with the client,understand his emotions and be adept in using latest technology to ensure speedy and timely justice delivery. He stressed that lawyers are no more technical advisers now but they are suppose to discharge the client friendly role of a Guide, Mentor, Philosopher and a Counsel.
The winning team was awarded with Rs. 8,000/- cash prize, internship at Amarchandand Mangaldas Law Firm, trophy, medals and other accolades.
NLUO from Odisha was declared the Runner Up of the the Moot Competition. Ms. Vidhisha Prakash was adjudged as the Best researcher, Mary Kavita Dominick lifted the trophy for Best Counsel and Best Memorial Trophy was awarded to the team of NLIU, Bhopal.
