IT leaders deliberate on Cloud Security and Big Data during “Confluence 2014 - The Next Generation Information Technology Summit” at Amity
Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Department of Information Technology, Amity University in collaboration with EMC Corporation started its 5th International Conference “Confluence 2014 - The Next Generation Information Technology Summit” at Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Noida. The theme of the Conference is “Cloud Security and Big Data”.
The two day Conference provide a platform to Engineers and Scientists in Academia, Industry and Government for disseminating the latest advancements in research & development w.r.t “Cloud Security and Big Data” and its various sub-themes: Cloud & Virtualization, Data Mining & Open Source Platforms, Artificial Intelligence & Soft Computing, Computer Networking, Communication System & Security, Geometric Modelling, Graphics and Visualization, Software Engineering and Advanced Trends and Technologies.
Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar Buyya- Director, Clouds Laboratory, University of Melbourne , Australia; Prof. (Dr.) Francisca Nonyelum Ogwueleka- Director ICT, Federal University, Nigeria; Prof. (Dr.) Jemal H. Abawajy- Professor, Deakin University, Australia; Prof. (Dr.) Jean Paul Van Belle- Director, Centre for IT and National development in Africa, University of Cape Town, South Africa; Mr. Sudhir Aggarwal, Sr. Director, Oracle; Maj. Gen (Dr.) Srikant sharma- Vice Chancellor, Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar, Prof. (Dr.) B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University and Prof. (Dr.) Ravi Prakash- Director, Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) inaugurated the Conference.
Welcoming the gathering and introducing the theme of the Conference, Prof. (Dr.) Abhay Bansal- HOD, Computer Science Engineering, ASET quoted a study by Nasscom and Deloitte, according to which, the Indian Cloud Computing Market is expected to reach USD 16 billion by 2020. He further shared that as per the recent Microsoft-IDC study, cloud computing will generate over 2 million jobs in India by 2015. He stressed that Cloud Computing has a lot of potential and Big data is gaining importance, which is the foundation for creating new levels of business value. Talking about “Confluence 2014”, he shared that this year there has been humungous participation of Speakers and Delegates from India and abroad including Australia, Germany and South Africa with over 177 Paper Presentations.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar Buyya- Director, Clouds Laboratory, University of Melbourne , Australia shared that IT is making great inroads and has led to a revolution across the world.World is moving towards a Knowledge Economy and India with its skilled Human Resources could benefit a lot. He remarked that Amity University would also play a major role by nurturing Next-Generation Software Experts. Footprints of Indians are visible worldwide. He opined that Knowledge Economy is all about automating and putting resources to optimum utilization for the benefit of society, especially reaching out to 95% masses who are not connected. He called upon the Next Generation Software professionals to use Cloud Computing technologies to devise innovative solutions to the existing problems. He stressed that Indian Market has lot of scope for Software Engineers who could develop indigenous, economical and specific solutions to the problems faced by Indians.
During the occasion, Honorary Professorship was bestowed upon Prof. (Dr.) Raj Kumar Buyya by Dr B Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University in the presence of distinguished guest and speakers.
Sharing his views and addressing the builders of tomorrow’s India, Mr. Sudhir Aggarwal, Sr. Director, Oracle said that Confluence 2014 is an apt platform to discuss Cloud Security and Big Data since it has representation from all the stakeholders. Mr. Aggarwal stated that Big Data and Cloud, just like the current generation, are evolving with less of legacy behind and are the treasured legacy of the country. He stressed that Big Data is the technology of tomorrow; there is huge amount of data created, the problem is what to do or how to manage the deluge of data. The Challenge of Big data is that of comprehension.
Prof. (Dr.) Francisca Nonyelum Ogwueleka- Director ICT, Federal University, while sharing her view, equated Cloud Computing with air which is a necessity for human existence. She stressed that Cloud Computing and Big Data have emerged as today's most exciting buzzwords of Information Technology and various industries, academic institutions and government organizations are using the cloud services all over the world leading to the cloud security issues such as data security, recovery and privacy issues. The need of the hour, she opined is, mutual learning and knowledge augmentation to benefit each other.
The distinguished guests released the Proceedings of the Conference during the occasion which was followed by keynote speeches by Prof. (Dr.) Axel Sikora, University of Applied Sciences Offenburg, Germany and Prof. (Dr.) Sandhya Samarasinghe, Head, Integrated Systems, Modeling Group, Lincoln University, New Zealand.
Subsequently Scientific papers were presented on topics such as “Cloud and Virtualization”, “Data mining and Open Source Platforms”, “Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing”, “Computer Networking”, “Cyber Weapons of Mass Destruction”, “Geometric Modeling, Graphics, and Visualization”, “Advance Trends and Technology” and “Communication System and Security” which were chaired by stalwarts including Dr. Vishal Bhatnagar, Ambedkar Institute of Technology, Delhi, Dr. B. K. Sharma, Principal Scientific Officer, NITRA, Dr. T. V. Vijay Kumar, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi and Dr. Dilip Sharma, GLA University, Mathura.
