Prof. (Dr.) Peter Langer, Leibniz-Institute of Catalysis - University of Rostock, Germany delivers lecture at Amity University

Prof. (Dr.) Peter Langer, Head of the Department of Organic Synthesis of the Leibniz-Institute of Catalysis, Member of Interdisciplinary Faculty, University of Rostock, Germany delivered lecture on “Chemistry of the N-Glycosides of Indigo, Indirubin and Isoindigo”.  The lecture was organized by Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation at Amity University, Sector-125.

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President –Amity Group; Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President – Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation, Dr. Sunil Saran, Sr. Vice Chairman – ASTIF, Dr. Ajit Varma, Advisor – Amity Institute of Microbial Technology were present during the occasion amongst a galaxy of Scientists.

During the occasion Prof. (Dr.) Peter Langer was conferred upon the title of “Honorary Professor” by Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President –Amity Group

Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President – Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation while introducing Prof (Dr.) Peter Langer, said that Prof. Langer is one of the world’s leading specialists in the area of Organic Synthesis, Medicinal Chemistry and New Materials. He is admired for his significant contributions towards the study and development of technology and new techniques in the areas of Domino Reactions, Organosilicon Chemistry, Natural Products and Carbohydrates. As Head of Department of Organic Synthesis, University of Rostock, he has been providing unique leadership with his visionary approach

Addressing the scientific conglomeration, Prof. (Dr.) Peter Langer said that scientists should not be just confined to mere publishing scientific papers or training students for research, rather they should do activities beyond science i.e. building bridges between two countries for mutual cooperation and collaboration. Scientist can contribute to make this world a better place to live. While delivering the lecture on “Chemistry of the N-Glycosides of Indigo, Indirubin and Isoindigo” said that these compounds have pharmacological importance. Around 10-15 years ago scientists have found that these natural indigo and its derivatives can be used for cancer treatment. He added that Antiproliferative activity of different indirubin-N-glycosides was tested by scientists on four human cancer cell lines including bladder, lung, esophageal and breast and they detected significant influence of the carbohydrate substituent on antiproliferative activity. Dr. Langer further stated that India and Nepal have rich sources of medicinal plants and it is treasure for development of new drugs. He said that India has so many excellent scientists and in last 10-15 years they have surpassed European scientists in research and innovations.

While presenting the Honorary Professor Title to Prof. (Dr.) Peter Langer, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President –Amity Group said that it is very rare moment for the students of Amity to interact and gain with the experience of the scientist who is researching on such  important topics which are beneficial for human kind. Dr. Chauhan added that students should follow the path of Prof. Langer who in such an early age of 45 years have published more than 500 research papers in reputed journals and had guided around 75 PhD scholars.

Scientists, faculty from Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity Institute of Microbial Technology, Amity Institute of Applied Sciences, Amity Institute of Nanotechnology and other Amity Institutions were present during the lecture session.
