Amity Institute of Competitive Intelligence and Strategic Management organises Conference on “Competitive Intelligence for Organizational Success"

Amity Institute of Competitive Intelligence and Strategic Management organized first of its kind Conference on “Competitive Intelligence for Organizational Success” at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.

The conference aimed to stimulate curiosity and bring together academicians, researchers, industry representatives, practitioners and students to share their experiences and highlight the need and value of Competitive Intelligence in today’s business environment.

Welcoming the august gathering, Maj. Gen Ashok Krishna- Director, Amity Institute of Competitive Intelligence and Strategic Management (AICISM) said, “today, we live in an increasingly competitive world in which the economy is troubled, environment is fiercely competitive, market is fluid, organizational structure is fluctuating and there is ubiquity of information- these all factors necessitates the use of Competitive Intelligence in each and every domain”. Elaborating on Competitive Intelligence (CI), Maj Gen Krishna, further, added that referring to CI as some form of criminal activity, espionage, spying or something mystical would be a pure misconception. CI is a strategic discipline which helps gathering knowledge about the business environment that results in action.

Dwelling on the raison de’être of using CI in any organization , Mr Niraj Prakash, Director, Public Sector Marketing, Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt. Ltd said that today’s organizations are not just bound by revenue and profitability. Retaining and increasing the market share has become important matrix that organizations have started targeting. Organizations fight for market share to make themselves market sustainable, which is possible only through the use of CI. Sharing his views further, Mr. Prakash stressed that CI has to be a part of every function in the organization, it is not a stand alone silo in the organization. “CI not only helps in analyzing the competition but also helps in customer assessment and analysis which is pivotal to competition and survival of an organisation.”, remarked Mr. Prakash.

Attributing 95% of his success to CI, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that with the continuous practice of CI, organizations can achieve everything their top leadership aspires for. He averred that no theory or teaching can supersede the implementation of CI. Dr. Chauhan further remarked that the day long conference has provided a unique opportunity to the students to benefit from the knowledge and experience of the sought after luminaries of the industry and called upon the students to make the best out of the discussions and deliberation that will take place during the day.

Sharing his thoughts on “Strategic Decisions through Competitive Intelligence- Lessons from Lifesciences Industry”, Dr. Ambrish Joshi- AVP, Genpact LLC very lucidly brought out how healthcare and pharma companies are using CI and Strategic Management to sustain and survive the competition. Outlining the dynamics that drove the formation and growth of the function of CI in healthcare and pharma industry, Dr. Joshi said that due to rising drug development time and cost, changes in market dynamics, globalization, need for better insights on competitors activities and failure of static view to predict the market changes led to various CI units to emerge in different functions within organizations to address the competitive issues. He summed up his presentation by stressing that CI is core to the lifesciences business.

Mr. Jitender Miglani, Founder and CEO, BMIMatters and Former Global Head of Market and Competitive Intelligence at HCL Technologies traced his journey of CI which started with HCL in 2003. Mr. Miglani shared a very innovative Business Model based on nine fundamental building blocks – Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels to deliver value propositions, Relationships with Customers, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partners and Cost Structure. This business model, Mr. Miglani said, can be tweaked as per the individual organizational needs to assess the level of CI in an organization.

Dr. Sandeep Vij- Assistant Professor & HOD, School of Business, Lovely Professional University, Punjab explored the ethics that a CI professional should follow while extracting the information. Dr. Vij remarked that sometimes situation demands a CI professional to indulge in unfair practices to elicit the facts but in such a trying situation, a CI professional should adhere to his values and ethics since means cannot justify the end.

Also present during the inauguration was the distinguished guest, Mr. Pierre Memheld, Head of Development of Sciences Politiques Aixen Provence, France who shared his views on CI as a process and CI as planning and organizational tools.

During the various sessions that followed the inauguration CI experts share their views on myriad topics related to the field including Mr Nishant Wadhwani, Founder and CEO, Insighful Intelligence Consultancy Pvt Ltd on “Strategic Analysis Model (SAM) for Emerging Markets”, Dr Jose G Vargas Hernandez, Professor Investigator Miembro del Sistema National De investigadores Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico on “A Study on the Contemporary Risen Issues in the Mergers and Acquisitions: Strategy of the Mexican Business Leaders”, Dr Gaurav Bisaria, Asst Professor, Integral University, Lucknow on “Best Practices in Competitive Intelligence: With Emphasis on Private Management Colleges or Universities”, Dr R Senathiraja, Senior Lecturer and Dr W P Gamini De Alwis, Associate Professor, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka on “The nature of response to Competitive Intelligence and Learning Process (Learning Culture) of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sri Lanka” , Mr Abhishek Pathak, Sr Analyst- Management Consultancy Division, Orkash Services Pvt Ltd on “Competitive Intelligence and Marketing Strategy Formulation” and others shared their views with the participants and delegates.

Over 21 Research papers on Competitive Intelligence from all over the world including France, Mexico, Iran, Sri Lanka and India were presented during the Conference.
