Ex-servicemen need to be suitably trained in Para legal functions to find better employment opportunities says Maj Gen Pramod Behl, Director General, Resettlement during valedictory function of Certificate Course in “Legal Assistance” at Amity
Valedictory Function of the 14 Week Certificate Course in “Legal Assistance” for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and Other Ranks (OR) was organized by Amity University in association of Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida. Maj Gen Pramod Behl, Director General, Resettlement, Mr. V K Gupta, DHJS, Principal Registrar, Armed Forces Tribunal, Maj. Gen S Bindra, Sr. Director, Amity Institute of Education and Training, Maj. Gen Nilendra Kumar, Director, Amity Law School were present during the valedictory ceremony.
Welcoming the august participants, Maj. Gen S Bindra- Sr. Director, Amity Institute of Education and Training presented a brief outline of the certificate course, various modules that was taught under the course and the benefits they will accrue to the participants. Maj. Gen Bindra, while addressing the armed force personnel, said that Amity salutes their undying spirit and love for country and as a service towards nation and armed force personnel, Amity has made this platform so that the these brave men can conquer the forts of boardroom too.
While addressing the participants of the certificate course, Maj Gen Pramod Behl, Director General, Resettlement said that Personal Below Officer Ranks (PBORs) often prefer job opportunities near their home stations, as most of them belong to rural areas or small towns where opportunities are limited. However there is a continuous demand for Para Legal professionals in district and sub divisional courts. Therefore, ex servicemen if suitably trained in Para legal functions will be able to find employment as “Munshi” with practicing lawyers and also as legal assistants.
Sharing his views of the program, Junior Warrant Officer Chandra Prakash Sharma from Air Force, a participant of the programme said that we are technical trained officers but have no knowledge of administration and legal system. From this program we received information about courts, civil procedures, FIR filing etc. JWO Sharma said that since he was due to retire in next couple of months, this course will help him find suitble jobs relating to legal assistants in high court or district courts.
Subedar B.S. Shekhawat, Army Ordinance Corps, another participant said that it is very necessary to know about IPC, CrPC and legal acts so that one can work in peace. Quoting his experience he said that he was having some problem with his electronic gadget and did not know how to solve his grievance. After knowing about Consumer Protection Law, he had successfully filed a complaint in consumer redressal forum and is now well versed with the law.
Sergeant V.K. Saini from Air Force said that we will get post retirement benefit from this course. Sergeant Saini said as per ruling by Supreme Court, district legal cells will be opened having Para legal openings. We as legal Assistants can work in District legal cell near our residence.
Thanking the participants for successful completion of the course, Maj. Gen Nilendra Kumar, Director, Amity Law School said that the course content was designed in such a way that it can help the JCOs and ORs for resettlement after retirement. Maj. Gen Kumar said that syllabus of the course includes Indian legal system, different types of courts and tribunals, Civil and Criminal Procedure. Interaction with clients, stamp duty, court fee , preparation of plaints and document, receipt of orders and judgment, information about Notary Public, registration of documents etc.
The 14 weeks Certificate Course in “Legal Assistance” was attended by over 40 officers including 20 from Army and 10 from Air Force.
The valediction ceremony was attended by officials from armed forces and Senior members from the academic fraternity of Amity University.
