Amity School of Natural Resources & Sustainable Development organises one week training program for Indian Forest Service Officers

One Week Compulsory Training program for Indian Forest Service Officers on "Impact of Various Treaties, Conventions and International Institutions on Conservation and Management of Forests" begins at Amity School of Natural Resources & Sustainable Development on January 09, 2012.

Dr. Mike Pandey, Chairman - Earth Watch Institute (India) & President, Indian Documentary Producers Association, Maj. Gen K Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Pro Vice Chancellor (Academics), AUUP, Prof. B.K.P. Sinha, Director - ASNR&SD inaugurated the training program by lighting the lamp.

Dr. Mike Pandey, Chairman - Earth Watch Institute (India) & President, Indian Documentary Producers Association said that forests are very important for human survival. Forest not only gives us wood but also give us most important i.e. oxygen. Forest also gives us medicinal herbs, their stems filter water etc. Dr. Pandey said that deforestation leads to global warming and reduction in food grain stock. While earlier there was 2 years food grain stock in the world which is now reduced to mere 90 days of food grain stock. Dr. Pandey said that India is the only country in the world where a river has a status of mother and that same mother Ganga is polluted. 90% of the pollutants of river Ganga come from our homes. Dr. Pandey said that now it is time to think that what will we leave for our generations to come. We have to make aware the common man about the environment protection.

Maj. Gen K.Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University said that the time has arrived when we all have to do some constructive work in environment protection and conservation of forests.

Inaguration session was followed by technical session in which Prof. B.K.P. Singh, Director - ASNR&SD briefed the participants on "Overview of legally and non-legally binding instruments related to forests. Dr. H.M. Behl, Ex-Deputy Director, National Botanical Research Institute. Lucknow presented his talk on "Convention on Biological Diversity". Mr. Ritwik Dutta, Advocate, Supreme Court of India presented his lecture on "Impact of Rio Declaration".

Academicians, Researchers, Senior officers of Amity University also participated in the training program.
