The Tenth Amity Insurance Cricket Cup - 2011 begins at Amity School Of Insurance, Banking and Actuarial Science
Amity School Of Insurance, Banking and Actuarial Science organized its 10th Amity Insurance Cricket Cup Tournament - 2011 to support the underprivileged girl children, under project AMITASHA: An Encouraging Icon for the Underprivileged girls. Amitasha was established by Amity Humanity Foundation under the vision of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan – Chairperson, Amity International Schools in 1999 for ameliorating the situation of underprivileged girl children. The main objective of the Foundation is to encourage and educate the underprivileged girl children. At Present over 1000 girls from underprivileged sector are provided free education, uniform, food, books etc under project Amitasha.
The tournament, which brought together 16 Insurance companies on a common platform, was inagurated at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.
Welcoming the distinguished guests from Insurance companies Prof. R.R Grover, Director, Amity School of Insurance and Actuarial Science, said that “It is a great opportunity extended by Amitasha for the Insurance professionals to assemble for the noble cause of uplifting the underprivileged girl children. It is a matter of pride to watch the underprivileged girl children receiving quality education, shoulder to shoulder with the privileged children. There is need to obliterate gender bias from the society and bring in greater women empowerment.”
Addressing the gathering Mr. Suresh Chopra, Senior Vice President, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) said that, “Cricket is an industry in itself and we are living in an instant era, where one has moved from Test cricket matches to One day cricket matches and finally to T20 cricket matches.” Mr. Chopra recommended that parents should compulsorily encourage their children to involve themselves in sports for healthy mental and physical growth.
During his address Maj. Gen K.J Singh, Vice Chancellor Amity University Uttar Pradesh said that “significance of sports lies in dynamic participation and team work and education holds no meaning if it is not related to human values.”
The inauguration of the Tenth Amity Insurance Cricket Cup Tournament - 2011 was followed by a match between Bajaj Allianz General and ICICI Lombard General Insurance. ICICI Lombard won the toss elected to field first. Bajaj Allianz General made 114 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. In reply ICICI Lombard General Insurance managed to make 109 runs for loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Bajaj Allianz General won the match by 5 runs.
The tournament, spread over 2 months and played in Amity campus on Saturdays and Sundays, involves the participation of 16 teams from the Insurance corporate sector such as Apollo Munich Health Insurance, Bajaj Allianz General, Bank of India Canara HSBC OBC Life, Future Generali, IIFCO – Tokio General, HDFC Ergo General, ICICI Lombard General, ICICI Prudential Life, JK Risk Managers & Insurance Brokers,
Max New York Life, Metlife India, Milliman India, National Insurance Co, Reliance General and Oriental Insurance.
