Re-engineering of Public Information Infrastructure will strengthen the governance of the country”, opine IT experts during the Corporate Meet “ CYBUS” at Amity

Amity Institute of Information Technology (AIIT) kickstarted two day Corporate Meet “CYBUS XI” on the theme “Public Information Infrastructure – Mining The Bottom Billion” at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

Mr. Santanu Ghose, Country Head, Converged Infrastructure Solutions, HP, Mr. Piyush Srivastava- Executive Vice President – Commercial, NIIT Technologies Limited, Maj. Gen K. Jai Singh, Vice Chancellor, Amity University and Prof. HSP Singh- Director, Amity Institute of Information Technology inaugurated the Meet.

Welcoming the august gathering, Prof. HSP Singh presented a bird eye view of the two day Meet outlining the topics that will be covered during the two day event. He called upon students to make the best out of the discussions and deliberations which will take place during the event as the pool of information which will be generated out of the experience sharing of IT experts will be unparallel.

Sharing his views during the inauguration, Mr. Santanu Ghose, Country Head, Converged Infrastructure Solutions, HP said that India and China have become much talked about countries in global community because both the countries have billions of people who drive fast growth. This growth can be sustained only by mining the bottom billion, by providing them latest IT services, integrating local language in the latest applications and making the data in the public domain available to them in no time. Dwelling on the ways to mine the bottom billion, he remarked that the latest communication devices have become converged and integrated including phones which have become multi- function serving as a source of entertainment, continuous connectivity and social networking. The bottom billion may not afford Laptops and desktops but everybody, even in Talukas, have access to cell phones, which mandates a key change in the Public Information Infrastructure (PIS). Talking about Cloud Computing, Mr. Ghose opined that Cloud computing is the delivery mechanism to bring about a change in PIS, cloud helps in creating shared infrastructure which can be scaled up or down at will. He called upon the students to make the best use of opportunities made in the wake of rapid changes witnessed by IT sector at the same time fulfilling the responsibility of integrating the bottom billion into the mainstream through updating PIS.

Outlining three important paradigms and facts related to Public Information Infrastructure with the students, Mr. Piyush Srivastava- Executive Vice President – Commercial, NIIT Technologies Limited highlighted that “Knowledge is Power”, “Connecting people through digital roads, countries can make huge amount of value proposition” and “the latest knowledge about IT and related devices can help weaving profitble businesses around”. He expressed that Digital divide no more exists and everybody can access the devices. With the convergence of all the digital devices, immense knowledge pool is being made, benefitting and empowering the bottom billion.

Inauguration was followed by a Panel Discussion on the topics “Mining The Bottom Billion “in which leaders from IT field such as Dr. Sougata Mukherjea- Senior Manager, Telecom Research, India Research Lab., IBM India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Arun Sharma-CEO, Cypress Solutions and Mr. Anil Jha -Scientist D, Cyber Security, NIC shared their views and brought out the importance for mining the bottom billion through Public Information Infrastructure (PII) for strengthening the economy of the country.

A host of cultural events will unfold during the second day of “ CYBUS” including Rangoli, Mehandi Photography, Memory Game, Group Dance Performance, Fashion Show and many others.
