The Ninth Mathematics Olympiad Workshop concludes at Amity
“India needs to churn out more intellectual capital out its populous density”: Prof. Krishan Lal, President, Indian National Science Academy during his Valedictory address at Amity The Ninth Mathematics Olympiad Workshop organized by Amity Centre for Science Olympiads (ACSO) concluded in collaboration with Srinivasa Ramanujan Mathematical Society, SASTRA University and SASTRA Kumbakonam at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida. The Ninth Mathematics Olympiad Workshop kickstarted on May 21, 2011, which aimed at encouraging the young students to strive for excellence in Mathematics and promoting greater interactivity between students, teachers and scientists. Prof. Krishan Lal, President, Indian National Science Academy said “Amity is truly is a unique Institution providing quality education to students from all across the Globe. Its uniqueness lies in its ethics and philosophy which it further inculcates within its students who stand apart from the crowd due to their respect for the virtue of learning besides their academic spark and excellence.” Mulling over the vitality of encouraging Mathematics and Science in students he said “Purpose of education is not just earning money for quality living and it is due to this myth that Mathematics is losing its importance as a discipline in the eyes of bright and young students cum career seekers. However, Mathematical discoveries and inventions have been found to have phenomenally factored in carving a future for a Nation since the traces of History. India owes its pride and honour to the great Mathematician ‘Arya Bhatta’ for the invention of the ‘Zero’. Mathematics is the mother of all Sciences and in the present times Science also needs to be more interdisciplinary in terms of research and application.” Motivating the enthusiastic participation of the young students during the workshop, he said “Although it is heartening to note that since 1989, India has won several gold medals in the arena of education, yet it stands disproportionate to its enormous population which is in great need to be nurtured in order to produce more of what we understand by human and intellectual capital rolled into one.”
Overwhelmed with the success of the Workshop
Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools said “It is heartening to note that the students have taken such deep interest in the workshop and have mastered the various tricks cum tips along with the in-depth knowledge of Science and Mathematics under the able mentorship of the experts of Olympiads. Amity and Olympiad commonly aim to equip the young talents to excel by setting new parameters for a successful, prosperous and illustrious future, thus redefining excellence.”
Addressing the gathering during the valediction of the workshop
Dr. Pratibha Jolly, Principal, Miranda House, University of Delhi, said “Self belief and Self faith are the two major components of success and achievement. History is undergoing constant transformation and our country too in tandem. Therefore young students are being exposed to a plethora of opportunities and scopes as an automatic corollary. The Mathematics Olympiad workshop is one such platform which is designed to boost the Mathematical and Science quotient in the bright young adolescents who apart from being trained and mentored by eminent academicians and Scientists during the workshop are also motivated to make the most of the available opportunities borne out of the constant metamorphosis cum advancement which the entire Globe is undergoing.” “Making the most out of this platform, students and participants should aspire to win the International Mathematics Olympiad as a new horizon is the science of life”, suggested
Dr. Jolly Sharing his views on the benefits of the workshop during the Valedictory Function Dr.
R.S Gupta, Emeritus Professor and Scientist, IIT Roorkee encouraged the students to continue to participate in the Mathematics Olympiad Workshop and said that one of the most valuable gifts such workshops have to offer is the temperament of learning and once the insatiable appetite for knowledge and excellence is built in youth, there is nothing that can stand in between them and success.
“The entire experience of the Olympiad workshop was an excellent exposure of learning in a myriad ways and it has instilled sheer confidence and determination in each participant along with the power of excellence” said
Mr. Ankarij Khama, Participant, Sachdeva Public School while sharing his experience during the Valedictory function of the workshop who also stated that it is his mission to become the brand Ambassador of Mathematics Olympiad in future.
Ms. Ananya Rajput, Participant, Amity International School, Noida thanked Amity for providing such a unique platform of learning. “The success of the workshop is owed to all the eminent Olympiad experts under whose able guidance learning got easier and more interesting. Also activities like Yoga, sports, movies and visit to the Aerospace laboratory during the workshop added further to the satisfaction and enchantment of the participants,” she added.
The Ninth Mathematics Olympiad Workshop was spread over eight days (May 21, 2011 – May 28, 2011) and saw the active participation of over 105 students from more than 30 renowned schools of Delhi and NCR including Amity International Schools, DPS – RK Puram, Ryan International School, Apeejay, DAV Public School, Sachdeva Public School, Bal Bharti etc.
The Valedictory Function of the Ninth Mathematics Olympiad workshop concluded with the felicitation of the esteemed guests by Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan along with a prize distribution ceremony wherein the worthy participants were awarded with Certificates and attractive prizes for their outstanding performances during the workshop.
Also present during the Valedictory Function of the Ninth Mathematics Olympiad workshop was
Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Fine Arts and Amity School of Fashion Technology.
Valuable training and guidance was imparted to the participants during the course of the enriching workshop by eminent academicians including
Dr. K. Kannan and Dr. R. Srikant from SASTRA University apart from various others.
