High level delegation from Hong Kong visits Amity University to mull over the potential areas of mutual collaboration

A high level delegation comprising senior academicians from various educational institutions of Hong Kong visited Amity University, Sector- 125, Noida to discuss and deliberate the potential areas of mutual collaboration.

The delegation was headed by Prof. T C Pong- Academic Research Advisor of the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong and Professor in Computer Science and Engineering who informed that RGC in Hong Kong is equivalent to UGC (University Grants Commission) in India and in Hong Kong, there are over 8 Public funded Universities with 6,525 Research Post Graduate students, 3, 578 Post Graduate students and 57, 565 Under Graduate students. Prof. Pong shared that in Hong Kong, 25% of total budgetary allocation is spent on education and Hong Kong Government encourages collaborations with foreign education institutions leading to students’ and faculty exchange programmes, academic exchanges and R& D activities. Prof. Pong revealed that Hong Kong Universities are ranked amongst top in the Asian World and attributed their excellence and merit to extensive research related activities encouraged and sponsored by Hong Kong Government.

Welcoming the distinguished delegation, Dr. Sunil Saran- Senior Vice Chairman, Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation said that in today’s competitive world, research and innovation is very important, which can help a country to lead global economy. Dr. Saran outlined various research related activities and projects going on in Amity University including those funded and supported by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Dr. Saran also pointed out the possibility of joint research activities between Amity University and various educational institutions of Hong Kong.

Other academicians from Hong Kong who visited Amity University as part of the delegation included Dr. Piyush Sharma- Deputy Program Director, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Faculty of Business, Dr. Zhang Shi Ping- Associate Professor, Hong Kong Baptist University, School of Chinese Medicine, Prof. Cheuk Pak Tong, Director of Academy of Films, School of Communication, Prof. Zhang Jianhua- Head, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, Prof. Jogesh K Muppala- Associate Professor, The Hong Kong university of Science and Technology, Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Mr. T Y Li- Assistant Secretary- General ( Research), Research Grants Council.

Dr. Gurinder Singh- Pro Vice Chancellor (I), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh and DG, Amity International Business School and Dr.(Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla- Pro Vice Chancellor (A), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh and Head, Amity Academic Staff College also addressed the delegation.

After mutual discussions and deliberations, the delegation was taken around the campus and shown magnificent campus including impressive infrastructure and state of the art laboratories.
