Lt. Gen. V.K. Ahluwalia, AVSM, YSM, VSM, GOC-in-C Central Command delivered lecture on "The Problem of Naxalism in India: Ground Realities And Strategic Challenges towards Conflict Resolution" at Amity University Campus, Sector - 125 Noida.
In his address Lt. Gen. V.K. Ahluwalia briefed the audience about the naxal problem and its origin in India. Lt. Gen Ahluwalia said that combine thought of Marxism - Lanninism - Maoism has given birth to Naxalism. In year 1976 in Naxalbari area, the naxal movement was started. Lt. Gen Ahluwalia said that naxalism is different in many ways as it is not limited to one state and mainly is due to the lack of satisfaction among public. Naxalism has spread to some parts of West Bengal, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh. There is estimated 232 districts affected by naxalism. The aim of naxalites is to extend the compact revolutionary zone from Bihar to Tamil Nadu and they have two different wings - Political Central Committee and Military Central Committee. According to Lt. Gen. Ahluwalia around 95 million tribals are there in our country and most of them are located in naxal affected areas. 46% of forest in our country is situated in these areas. Naxal operation is never static and is dynamic in nature. Around 2000 crore of money is received annually by naxals by way of extortion, kidnapping etc. Lt. Gen. Ahluwalia said that for any insurgency to survive there must be a forign hand for training, equipping them with arms and ammunation, refuge.
Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group thanked Lt. Gen. V.K. Ahluwalia for enlighten the audience with the naxal problems. Dr. Chauhan said that until there is no political will, the problem of naxalism will not be solved. If one state tries to stop the naxallites by increasing security operations than other neighbouring state will not cooperate it.
