Amity Institute of Neuropsychology and Neurosciences organises Seminar on Scope of Neurosciences in India

Amity Institute of Neuropsychology and Neurosciences in association with Dana Foundation - Philanthropic Organisation, organised seminar on Scope of Neurosciences in India on March 13, 2013.

The event was introduced by Dr. Vijaysen Pandey, Assistant Professor II (AIPS), who thanked Amity Institute of Neuropsychology and Neurosciences and supporting Amity Institutions for organising the event.

This was followed by a brief address from Professor (Dr.) Abha Singh , Dean - Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Journalism & Communication, and Social Sciences explained that Neurosciences have been a longstanding passion of Founder President Sir and explained that she was convinced that AINN would be successful under the strong leadership and research skills of its Acting Head.

Dr. Ben Newman Wright thanked Professor (Dr.) Abha Singh for her kind words, briefly introduced the audience to the work of the Dana Foundation in promoting brain awareness, commented on the importance of AINN in leading the development of Neuropsychology and the Neurosciences in India, and spoke at some length about the scope of Neurosciences and their importance in both America and Europe. Dr. Ben introduced the field of enquiry as popular and challenging before discussing several areas of enquiry within the Neurosciences (traditionally referred to as Neurobiology):

·         Clinical Neuroscience;

·         Neuroimaging;

·         Behavioural Neuroscience (similar to Physiological Psychology);

·         Cellular Neuroscience;

·         Neuroethology;

·         Cognitive Neuroscience (similar to Neuropsychology);

·         Neurolinguistics;

·         Systems Neuroscience;

·         Social (and Affective) Neuroscience;

·         Cultural Neuroscience;

·         Developmental (and Evolutionary) Neuroscience;

·         Mathematical/Computer Neuroscience;

·         Neuroengineering;

·         Neuroinformatics;

·         The 2011 American document, developed with its Government, ‘A 10-Year Plan for Neuroscience: From Molecules to Brain Health’

Dr. Ben then called for any questions from the audience, following which the panel discussion began. Questions put to the panel largely focused on Neuroengineering and genetic engineering. There was also some focus on Neuropsychology and its development in India including on the study of criminal minds and brain imaging during meditation.

The two panellists each selected two posters from the six submitted to be awarded certificates for first and second place, following which scores were averaged by Dr. Ben Newman Wright.
