National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi wins 12th Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013
Amity Law School, Delhi organized 12th Amity National Moot Court Competition from March 1- 3, 2013 at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida to familiarize budding lawyers with the actual court proceedings thereby honing their skills of formulating and presenting legal arguments before a panel of judges.
The topic of 12th Moot Court Competition was “Intellectual Property Rights”. Over 32 teams across India participated in 12th Moot Court Competition including Symbiosis, Pune; GLC, Mumbai; NLU, Odisha; NUALS, Kochi; NALSAR, Hyderabad; NLU, Assam; Faculty of Law, Lucknow University; Symbiosis, Noida; SOEL, Chennai; AIL, Mohali; BILS, Bangalore; Faculty of Law, Allahabad University; HNLU, Raipur and others.
National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi was declared Winners and Symbiosis, Pune was declared Runners-Up of Amity National Moot Court Competition 2013.
The valediction of 12th Amity National Moot Court Competition was graced by Shri. Mohan Parasaran, Solicitor General of India; Shri. Manan Kumar Mishra- Senior Advocate & Chairman, Bar Council of India; Shri. Raian Karanjawala,-Senior Advocate and Founder & Managing Partner, Karanjawala & Company; Mr. Lalit Bhasin- Honorary President, Amity Law School & Advocate, Supreme Court of India; Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) & President, Amity Law School, Delhi and Prof. M.K. Balachandran -Director, Amity Law School, Delhi.
Welcoming the august gathering, Prof. M.K. Balachandran -Director, Amity Law School, Delhi gave a bird’s eye view of 12th Amity Moot Court Competition highlighting the enriching and informative experience participants and observers had during 16 Courts of Preliminary Rounds, 4 Courts of Quarter final rounds, 2 Courts of Semi- final rounds and 1 court of Final round
Addressing the young budding lawyers and congratulating them for participating in the Amity National Moot Court Competition, Shri. Mohan Parasaran, Solicitor General of India said that Indian legal brains are brilliant and are in great demand across the globe. He remarked, “Although younger generation of lawyers are far more intellectual than the older generation but they are impatient to secure success in a short span of time. Talented lawyers who pass out of reputed law schools and colleges go abroad and join foreign legal firms to earn fast money.” He called upon the budding lawyers to go for actual live legal practice which is incomparable to any other work. Live legal practice involves slogging, hard work, sheer patience and gives an opportunity to the lawyers to carve out a niche for themselves in legal fraternity across India and world. It gives them a real experience of trial courts and other courts where one learns the fundamentals of Civil Procedure Court, Indian Evidence Act and Criminal Procedure Court etc. Shri. Mohan Parasaran appealed the management of Amity to regularly host Moot Court Competitions in contemporary topics such as International Taxation, Commercial Law and Arbitration, Intricate issues in Taxation etc which will help the budding lawyers to get familiarized with the actual problems and Court proceedings.
Sharing his inspirational thoughts during the occasion, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan- Founder President, Ritnand Balved Education Foundation (RBEF) & President, Amity Law School, Delhi said that Moot Court Competitions are practical sessions for the budding lawyers which trains them in court craft, advocacy skills and fighting spirit. He stressed that lawyers need intuition, creativity, flexibility, courage, conviction, hard work and a constant drive for improvisation to become successful in their profession.
Referring to Dr. Ashok K Chauhan as “Pioneer in the field of education”, Mr. Lalit Bhasin- Honorary President, Amity Law School & Advocate, Supreme Court of India highlighted that Moot Court Competition involves lot of research, hard work, develops the oratory skills of the budding lawyers, give in-depth knowledge of law and makes them “good lawyers” but more important is to become “Complete Lawyer”. Complete Lawyer, in addition to having sound legal knowledge, is a reservoir of knowledge of all fields, contemporary issues, cultures and practices followed in India. He called upon the students to prepare them to become complete lawyers and responsible citizens of the country.
The semi-finals of the Moot Court were contested amongst four teams Symbiosis Law School, Noida; Symbiosis Law School, Pune; NUALS, Kochi and Army Institute of Law, Mohali. Symbiosis, Pune and made it to the finals.
Ms. Ritu Nichani from HNLU, Raipur was adjudged as the “Best Speaker” and the “Best Lady Advocate”. The Best Memorial Trophy went to the team from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Best Researcher Award was lifted by Mr. Omkareshwar Pathak from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab.
The semi-final and the final rounds of the competition were judged by eminent judges including Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manmohan- Judge, High Court of India ,Hon’ble Mr. Justice Manmohan Singh- Judge, High Court of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw; Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sunil Gaur and Hon’ble Mr. Justice M L Mehta.
