Dr. W Selvamurthy- Former Chief Controller R&D for Life Sciences, DRDO joins Amity as President - Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation

Distinguished Scientist and Former Chief Controller R&D for Life Sciences (LS) and International Cooperation (IC), Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Dr W Selvamurthy has joined Amity Group as President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) and Chair professor, Life Sciences.

Dr. Selvamurthy was, today, welcomed wholeheartedly by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group, Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh along with the scientific fraternity of Amity University which jointly shares the vision and vision of the Founder to make Amity biggest private contributor of R&D in India.

 

Congratulating the erudite Scientist, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan remarked that he has a grandeur vision to synergize the best of East and West in the field of research and convert the same for societal benefit. Dr. Chauhan announced that at present, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh has 265 Ph D scholars and within one year the number would almost be doubled. Dr. Chauhan stressed that it’s a great honor and matter of pride for Amity to have been enriched by such a valuable jewel, who has created ripples in the field of Science and R&D India and abroad

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Selvamurthy shared that he has worked with DRDO for over 40 years and joining Amity is a turning point of his life. He apprised students with his humble starting from a small village in Tamil Nadu which just housed 1, 000 people and how he pursued his further studies with zeal and enthusiasm to contribute to the nation’s growth and development.

 

Dr. Selvamurthy remarked that during the Information era, India played a significant role. “Although, India did use IT revolution but the immediate need is to devise high end softwares to derive maximum benefits from latest developments in the field of Science and Technology. The excellence in the field of Science can be achieved through innovations and ability to think out of the box. Scientists, Researchers and Engineers have to work closely with industry to translate Science into technology and then technology into useful products.” stressed the Scientist

 

Dr. Selvamurthy applauded the young, innovative minds of Amity and shared his mission to work closely with young scholars, researchers, faculty members and assist them in labs in an endeavor to produce first Noble Laureate of India from Amity after Sir C V Raman. He suggested the management of Amity University to formulate strategies to become a cradle of “frugal innovations”

 

Amity University is known as hub of extensive R&D activities. The researchers and scientists of Amity University, Uttar Pradesh (AUUP) undertake extensive R&D projects in latest areas such as Nanotechnology, Solar Energy, Nuclear Energy, Bio-Chemistry etc and are working on 250 research projects funded by Government. With the guidance and continuous motivation of Founder President, they have already filed over 377 patents during the last two years, authored over 500 books, published 3, 400 papers and developed over 400 Case Studies.
