“Telecom and IT- key solutions to provide education in far flung areas through e- Networks” opine experts during the inauguration of TEL-NET 2013 at Amity University
Amity Institute of Telecom Technology & Management (AITTM) & IETE Sub-Centre Amity University commenced two day International Conference on “Telecommunication and Networks (TEL-NET2013)” at Amity Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.
The two day Conference aims to explore growing advancement in the fields of Telecommunication, Networking Technologies and Security of Networks. It will provide a common platform to experts in the field, researchers and industry captains to exchange their views on the changing paradigms in the field of Telecommunication and Networks.
Mr. Vimal Wakhlu, Chairman & Managing Director, Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (A Government of India Enterprise), Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Shevgaonkar, Director, IIT, New Delhi; Dr. Surendra Pal- President, IETE; Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group; Maj. Gen K J Singh- Group Vice Chancellor, Amity Universities and Lt. Gen P D Bhargava- Group Dy. Vice Chancellor and Advisor, Amity Institute of Telecom Technology and Management (AITTM) inaugurated TEL-NET 2013.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering and giving a brief overview of TEL-NET 2013, Lt. Gen P D Bhargava- Group Dy. Vice Chancellor and Advisor, Amity Institute of Telecom Technology and Management shared that during the two day Conference over 112 Research Papers will be presented by 102 delegates from India and abroad. Gen Bhargava appraised the gathering with the objectives of recently launched “Amity International Telecom Forum (AITF)” which will give an opportunity to telecom experts and engineers including students across the globe to exchange their views, thereby creating a synergy of brains in telecom field internationally.
While sharing his views during the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) R.K. Shevgaonkar, Director, IIT, New Delhi remarked that telecom is a great success story for India. “In 1991, there were only 20 million connections in the country and today, there are over 960 million connections, which reflect the colossal growth in Telecom sector. India, today, has second largest telephone users in the world with 80% Tele-density. Besides urban areas, connectively has reached rural areas also, thereby empowering people at large scale”, shared Prof. Shevgaonkar. “The telecom revolution has also changed the education scenario in the country. Today, there are over 600 Universities in the country whereas as per global standards, India needs 3000 Universities. Universities are not just bricks and mortars and faculty members cannot be procured overnight. With the use of IT and Telecom (e- networks), higher education is being provided to large number of students at far flung areas, as a result of which education has become student centric. Telecom is fulfilling the basic needs of the society.” highlighted the speaker. Prof. Shevgaonkar stressed the need for adopting India centric models in the field of Telecom and Network and affordable applications, keeping in view the complex society and rich diversity of India.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group shared his mission and vision to make Amity one of the best institutions across the world as well the biggest private contributor in the field of R&D. Dr. Chauhan remarked that Amity International Telecom Forum (AITF) would work closely with IETE (Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers) and TEL-NET2013 would give a golden opportunity to implement the vision, mission and objectives of AITF. Dr. Chauhan assured that AITF would have more than 2000 members within two years
Stressing the importance of Telecom in the country, Mr. Vimal Wakhlu, Chairman & Managing Director, Telecommunications Consultants India Limited said that Telecom is the growth engine of a country. All facets of life are touched by Telecom whether it’s education, health or governance. Mr. Wakhlu outlined the various changes that have come in the Telecom sector with special reference to “Access Networks”, “Transmission Networks” and “Switches”.He stressed that changes are inevitable in the society but at the same time, their repercussions such as effect of mobile radiations on health cannot be overlooked. He motivated the students to involve themselves in R&D, work towards solving the problems of the people in an environment friendly manner.
Dr. Surendra Pal- President, IETE highlighted the role and functions of IETE and outlined the changes that are witnessed by Telecom and IT in recent years, in the wake of globalization and the increasing thrust of information. He called upon the budding engineers to be innovative and think differently in order to find solutions to the problems that are holding back the growth of Telecom and IT sectors in the country especially the limited spectrum available to telecom operators in the country. Dr. Pal also highlighted the need for secured networks in the country and called for holistic development in all the areas.

During the technical sessions, various eminent speakers shared their distinguished views including “Security in Wireless Networks” by Dr. Rajeev Shore, Founding President and Advisor NIIT University, Nimrana, “Technology Trends in Next Generation Wireless” by Mr. Rajat Mukarji, Idea Cellular Chief Corporate Affair, "MEMS for Wireless Communication" by Prof. (Dr.) Shiban Koul, Professor & Head, Centre for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE), IIT Delhi.
