Amity Institute of Nano Technology organized expert Lecture Session by Dr. Suresh Valiyaveettil, Associate Professor, Materials Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore. The topic of the lecture was “Nanosafety and Functional Materials for Environmental Application”.

While briefing the gathering about the National University of Singapore, Dr. Valiyaveettil said University was established in 1905 as State Government Medical College as was renamed as National University of Singapore in 1980. Around 28,000 graduate students and 10,000 post graduate students are studying in various disciplines. Department of Chemistry is running M.Sc and PhD programs wherein analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry are main research areas, added Dr. Valiyaveettil. During his lecture Dr. Valiyaveettil touched upon Silver Nano Particles, uptake & distribution of Nanoparticles, cytotoxicity & gentoxicity of silver nanoparticles.

Dr. Valiyaveettil said that water pollution is a new widespread challenge in Singapore. Their country is totally depended on Malaysia which supplies water through pipeline. Chemical, physical, soluble, stable types of pollutants are found in water. Dr. Valiyaveettil said that water supply management is very important. He also briefed the gathering on metal oxides, morphology of metal oxide, characterization of metal oxide after absorption.

On this occasion, Dr. Sunil Saran, Sr. Vice Chairman, ASTIF;  Dr. Ajit Varma, Advisor, AIMT;  Dr. VK Jain, Dr. RP Singh, Advisor, AINT and faculty & students of Amity Institute of Nano Technology were present.
