Three Day Knowledge Exchange Program with Nottingham University begins at Amity University
Globalization has shrunk the word and there is no country which can survive by living in isolation. All the countries of the world are linking with other countries in one field or another. The most common field in the linkages is education which can further cut the boundaries between the countries. In order to facilitate knowledge sharing with best global universities, Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences (AIPS) and Amity Institute of Behavioral & Allied Sciences (AIBHAS) commenced three day Knowledge Exchange Program with Nottingham University, UK at Amity University Campus, Sector-125 Noida.
The delegation members from Nottingham University included Dr. Alan Sunderland, Dr. Nicola Pitchford along with Professors of Clinical Neuro Psychology, Brain Imaging. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Abha Singh, Dean -Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Journalism & Communication and Social Sciences; Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Dean – Faculty of Management Studies; Dr. Alka Munjal, Director – Academics and Maj. Gen R.K. Dhawan, Advisor – International Affairs Division.
While welcoming the delegation members from Nottingham University, Dr. Abha Singh, Dean -Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Journalism & Communication and Social Sciences said that Psychology is the most seeking course in India after Engineering and Management. The uniqueness of a psychologist lies in the fact that he can heal mind, body and soul. Psychology alone has number of specialties and Neuro Psychology & Brain Imaging is one of the specialties of Psychology stream. Dr. Singh said that it the endeavor of Amity to have knowledge sharing platform with the contemporary global universities. Nottingham University is one such unique university which has courses in Neuro Psychology & Brain Imaging which could help Amity in its mission of knowledge sharing.
Dr. Nicola Pitchford from Nottingham University said that University of Nottingham has a diverse community of 42,000 students from more than 150 countries creating an inspiring place to study and work. University of Nottingham has five faculties offering 350 undergraduate and over 360 post graduate courses. University has campuses in Malaysia and China. Students can opt for scholarship schemes which can waive off upto 50% of tuition fees. Dr. Pitchford said that they are keen to have joint M.Sc. programs with Amity University with student exchange, joint research, joint seminars etc.
Dr. Alan Sunderland, School of Psychology, University of Nottingham said that The School of Psychology is consistently ranked amongst the top Psychology Schools in the United Kingdom and is among the leading centres for research and teaching in the world. The courses offered in under graduation are in the field of Psychology, cognitive neuroscience, Human Sciences. In post graduation level, courses offered are one year M.Sc in Psychological Research methods with 180 credits, 1 year M.Sc Brain Imaging with 180 credits and 1 year Diploma in Psychology with 120 credits.
Dr. Ben Wright, Project Coordinator, Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences said that knowledge exchange program is an opening of a dialogue between researcher and global universities. Government of India is working on a strategy to transform India into knowledge super power particularly in Pharmaceuticals, Medical Science and Information Technology. Knowledge exchange program aims to contribute in development of faculty thereby strengthening the research capabilities; development of new curriculum; bringing innovation in higher education system and development of online content. Dr. Wright said that knowledge exchange program with University of Nottingham will result in development of dual degree M.Sc program in Clinical Neuro Psychology; exchange programs; collaborative research projects in Neuro psychology & Psycho linguistics; faculty exchange program through joint workshop, seminars; increase reciprocal student mobility and joint publication.
During the three days, delegation from Nottingham University will interact with faculty members of Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences, Amity Institute of Behavioral & Allied Sciences for further goal oriented action plan.
