Amity School of Communication organised Google YouTube Training Workshop on October 22, 2012. Mr. Bharat Zende, Head of Online Acquisitions and partner Operations, You Tube India and SE Asia, Mr.Gaurav Dobhal- Online Partner Acquisitions Lead, You Tube India, Ms.Anchal Bahadur - Online Partner Acquisitions Australia were the speakers during the occasion. They gave an overview of how Google and You tube function as search engines. Students also got to know that YouTube was the world’s second best search engine after Google. Videos were shown on how YouTube acts as a ‘medium of expression’ even to the common man and that it thrives on the participation of the ‘Netizens’. They gave examples on how celebrities have been made from YouTube’s talent pool, Justin Beiber being the most noticeable.
The lecture centered on how both these search engines work, on the methods used for search and how revenues are distributed to the concerned artists. The lecture also focused on how YouTube promotes creativity and also showcased the growth over the years from you tube’s humble beginnings in the garage of its owners. The day ended with a video which threw a light upon you tube’s reach and popularity.
181 students’ along with a few faculty members attended the first lecture and they felt that it was refreshing and gave insights on how the world of search engines- program. Shubhika Jain, a student of BJ&MC quoted that “The workshop was quite informative about the basic foundation of you tube, we now know how to become a success story following the steps of Justin Bieber”. Tanya Sarkar, a faculty of ASCO feels that “Atleast after this lecture series, students will know how to rightly use internet for the right reasons”.
