Amity International School, Mayur Vihar wins a Gold Medal at Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science (IRIS)
Continuing with their winning spree, the students of Amity International School, Mayur Vihar, Ishaani Goomer and Khanak Bhargava of Class X, won the Gold Medal at IRIS National Fair – 2012 held at Bal Bhavan, New Delhi.
IRIS (Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science) is an organization which works in collaboration with Department of Science & Technology, CII and Intel. In the first round, there were 2500 teams from different parts of the country. 111 teams were selected to participate in the National Fair. It was a very challenging round where over 21 scientists evaluated the teams to select the winner in each category.
The budding scientists of the school had prepared a kit to detect the presence of Calcium Carbide in mangoes .Calcium Carbide is used for artificial ripening of mangoes. It is carcinogenic and is harmful to the body. This kit will help in the identification of artificially ripened mangoes. These students who won the Gold Medal at the IRIS National Fair have also been shortlisted to represent India in ISEF – 2013 to be held in USA. Dr. (Mrs) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson - Amity International Schools, congratulated the students and wished them success in life.
