Amity Centre for Science Olympiads organizes valedictory function of Olympiad Workshop for Science and Mathematics
Amity Centre for Science Olympiads (ACSO) organized “13th Olympiad Workshop for Science and Mathematics” from October 20 to 27, 2012 at Amity University Campus, Sector-125, Noida. The first ever of its kind held in India, the workshop aimed at training students for National and International Olympiads
The workshop was attended by over 80 exceptionally bright students studying in classes VI to XII of various schools located across Delhi and NCR including Max Fort School Dwarka, KV Tuglakabad, Khaitan Public School, Noida, N. K. Bagrodia, Noida, Springdale school Dhaula Kuan and 9 Amity International Schools
The valedictory function was presided over by the Chief Guest Dr. Rajiv Sharma -Executive Director, INDO-US Science & Technology Forum; Dr. R. Brakashpathy -Scientist ‘G’ Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Dr. Subodh Mahanti- Scientist ‘G, VIGYAN PRASAR, Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University and Hon’ble Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity International Schools on October 27, 2012 at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Rajiv Sharma -Executive Director, INDO-US Science & Technology Forum said that it is imperative to inculcate scientific temper amongst the students since learning of science and mathematics promote factual and practical learning. He stressed that Science and Mathematics are the backbone of a country’s growth and development and opined that such workshops conducted by the experts makes the learning easier and a fun experience for the students. He congratulated the parents for making the wise decision in sending their children to the Workshop
Giving away the certificates of participation to the students, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools expressed her joy and exultation at the overwhelming and growing participation of students in the Workshop every year. She thanked all the eminent faculty members who took out time from their precious time to guide and mentor the young students of the country and called upon the participating students to emulate the faculty members and take lessons from their life
Sharing his views, Dr. R. Brakashpathy -Scientist ‘G’ Department of Science & Technology, Government of India said that the knowledge of Science and Mathematics form the basis of all the activities which human beings indulge into. He commended the Olympiad workshop for Science and Mathematics and said that the Olympiad helps in bringing out the innate talent of the students. It kindles the spirit of research amongst the students, which is the need of the hour.
Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University remarked that students are the future of the country, some of them would become IAS officers and some scientists and so on but to be successful they need to cultivate scientific outlook and temperament in their lives
During the week long workshop, the students stayed in the hostels within the Amity University Campus and were trained to develop skills to solve mind racking problems of Science and Mathematics thereby, grooming them for National and International Olympiads..
They were given a golden opportunity to be trained by renowned professors from top universities of India, who have unparalleled experience in the field of teaching and have conducted various National and International Olympiads in India and at a global platforms while representing India.
Dr. Ravi Bhattacharjee- National Coordinator for International Olympiads of INDIA and a faculty of Physics, University of Delhi; Prof. (Dr.) S. V. Eswaran- National Coordinator for International Olympiads of INDIA and Former Dean and HOD of Chemistry, University of Delhi; Dr. V. Verma-Head of the Department and faculty of Botany, Amity Institute of Competitive Intelligence and Dr. R. P. Bapat- National Coordinator for International Olympiads of INDIA and a faculty of Mathematics, ISI were some of the prominent faculty members who taught students various modules of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Besides these teachers, the students were extensively coached by faculty members of Amity Institute for Competitive Examinations in each subject.
The seven day workshop included a planned and strategically designed daily routine, which is crucial for the holistic development of students. The students started their day at 6:30am, to gear up for the busy but thrilling activities scheduled during the course of the day.
The students attended two sessions during the day, following which they had their doubt removal classes with the subject experts from 9:00 pm- 10:00 pm. To develop interest in research, students were exposed to various hi-tech labs of Amity University and interacted with Scientists to understand the technical aspects of scientific instruments being used for various research programmes.
