Amity Institute of English Studies & Research and Amity Institute of Corporate Communication organize a National Seminar on Interdisciplinary Studies: Literature and Art, Literature and Cinematography
A one day National Seminar on Interdisciplinary Studies: Literature and Art, Literature and Cinematography was organized by Amity Institute of English Studies & Research and Amity Institute of Corporate Communication at F-2 Seminar Hall, Amity University Campus.
The National Seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Anup Beniwal, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences – GGSIP University, Dr. N.K. Vats, Associate Professor, GGSIP University, Dr. Neerkanwalmani, Associate Professor, Govt. PG College Faridabad, Dr. Radha Mohan Tiwari, Associate Professor, Govt. P.G. College, Mujjaffar Nagar, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Acting Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Capt. H.A. Arfi, Director – AICC & AIESR.
While delivering keynote address, Prof. Anup Beniwal, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences – GGSIP University said that Modern India has one unique blessing of having many languages. That is how we garner our knowledge. Language means culture, communication while knowledge leads to information and wisdom. Prof. Beniwal said that whatever understood in own native language can not be better explained in any other language. Literature, cinema, art at one level are narratives and our country is a Nation which is saturated with narratives. We generate stories to garner knowledge and wisdom. Prof. Beniwal said that the moment you remove communication from life, the life will simply cease. Purest form of stories are from mythology. While describing about adaptation in literature, Prof. Beniwal said that literature adaptation does not simply mean adapting novel for stage, it is like putting page into stage. One has to immerse into it, it is a dialectics between word and image. Translating the story or poem into another language is adaptation and students must learn this art of adaptation.
Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Acting Vice Chancellor, Amity University questioned the audience as to ‘how humans despite having everything are not happy?’ Dr. Shukla said that human brain has two sides. The left brain is for intellectual thinking and right brain is for the emotional and literary part. Dr. Shukla said that one can acquire and copy the lessons of science and management but one can not acquire literature and art as everything that is imagined by a person is differently perceived by the other.
Dr. N.K. Vats, Associate Professor, GGSIP University laid stress on the fact that books are nothing but the straight notions which are imposed on us. While speaking on contemporary cinema, Dr. Vats said that cinema in India has travelled from Classical to Modern to Post Modern age. The present cinema is of post modern age which defies abiding by rules. Here content wins over the story. The village shown in movies like Naya Daur or Mother India has transformed into village of Peepli Live, Gangs of Wasseypur or Omkara.
During the second session, Dr. Gauri Chakravarty, Amity School of Communication presented her talk on “Interpretation of Literary Adaptations in Cinema”. Dr. Pragya M. Singh, AIESR delivered her lecture on Literature, Life and Cinema: An Interface. Dr. Shweta Singh, AIESR talked on Emerging faces of Women in Hindi Cinema. Ms. Geetika Kaw Kher, ASFA presented her talk on Surrealism: A Plunge in Subconscious through Art and Literature.
Faculty, students from Institute of English Studies & Research and Amity Institute of Corporate Communication were present during the occasion.
