Baba Sewa Singh Ji, Padma Shri felicitated with Amity Golden Award

“ Over 678 crores are spent on training the Indian teams and players for 2 ½years who will be competing in Common Wealth Games. Different federations have chosen the best of the players and are providing them best of the facilities ever possible. International coaches are hired to train them. Indian Swimming team was sent to Europe for 1 ½ months for practice. All this is done to ensure that Indian players can have equal footing with their International counterparts. All the stadia that are getting ready are the most complex architectural wonders and most of them will be better than the Beijing”, averred Dr. M S Gill- Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India who was the Chief Guest during the felicitation of Baba Sewa Singh Ji, Padma Shri with “Amity Golden Award” at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.

Sharing very realistic and practical view of life, Hon’ble Minister said, “Indian education is not friendly to sports promotion. Schools promote rote learning and cramming, which can only make a good professional but definitely, not a successful and good human being. Crammers cannot lead a country. I have suggested Hon’ble Education Minister, Mr. Kapil Sibal that no new school should be recognized unless and until it has a playground.”

Sharing breakthrough and historical information during the function, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity announced that Amity University is the sponsor as well as the official trainer for 30, 000 volunteers for XIX Common Wealth Games, wherein over 6, 000- 8, 000 volunteers would be from Amity.

“Organizing Committee of Common Wealth Games has thoroughly screened our faculty and they are assured that they will provide quality training. It’s a matter of great prestige for us. We have contemporary infrastructure and trained professionals. We have to train volunteers in specific areas such as General Training, Role Specific Training, Venue Specific Training, Training for Trainers and Leadership Training. The students will be expected to work in any of the three main areas namely Security, Media and Hospitality. It is a mandatory requirement for the volunteers to be trained for at least 8 hours and if the need be further training would be given. An additional 310 students from Amity will volunteer during the Test Events preceding the Common Wealth Games. Amity has always believed in serving the humanity and the entire nation through education and this is the best platform to achieve the motto of Amity. The success of the event will depend largely upon the volunteers, how they conduct themselves and how they tackle the difficult situations. He assured that all those who will volunteer for the Common Wealth Games will make unparallel careers in their life ahead.”

Paying heed to the suggestion of Hon’ble Minister, Dr. Chauhan also announced to start NSS 2 year Programme in every Amity Campus and the students pursuing the course will get 1 ½ credit every year.
