Amity Centre For Extension Services organises One Day Awareness Cum Training Programme On “Production Technologies Of Sugarcane"
Amity Centre for Extension Services (ACES) organized one day Awareness cum Training Programme on “Production Technologies of Sugarcane for the Farmers of District Ghaziabad (UP)” at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.
In his welcome address Dr. N.P Singh, Director, ACES stated that farmers are the backbone of India’s agriculture and hold more practical experience than the scientists of the field. Dr. Singh said “Research and the practical experience of the farmers need to go hand in hand in order to bring about progress in India’s agriculture.”
During his inaugural address Mr. B.R Chauhan, District Cane Officer Ghaziabad, expressed his pleasure in being a part of this direct interaction programme between the farmers and scientists. Mr. Chauhan said “The Government sugar mills should be welfare based unlike private sugar mills and the Government needs to bring about long term agricultural policies and introduce greater subsidies for farmers.” Mr. Chauhan informed that presently youth is reluctant to take up agriculture as an occupation and called upon the youth to undertake more research project of agriculture so that the country prospers. He advised that the farmers must utilize such interaction opportunities between themselves and the scientist to the utmost to gain more technical and research based knowledge.
Mr. Manjeet Singh Chauhan, Honourable member of the Advisory Committee, during his address said that “The occupation of the farmer greatly depends upon the nature and Sugarcane is such a crop that needs water all the year round therefore it is important for the Indian Government to look into the problem of water crisis.” Mr. Singh advised the farmers to revive the concept and practice of ‘Chaupal’ to reap its benefits of sharing practical experience and knowledge amongst themselves.
Mr.Sanjay Shishodia, Deputy Cane Officer, Modi Nagar, Ghaziabad (UP) during his interaction with the farmers informed that “Sugarcane farming is done in 200 countries of the world and 70% of Sugar production of the world comes from Sugarcane farming and 20% of world’s Sugarcane is grown in India.” Mr. Shishodia said “It is targeted that by 2020, India should produce 274 lac tones of sugar according to which 100 ton Sugar should be produced per hectare of land whereas presently the production of Sugar is only 72 tonnes per hectare.” Mr. Shishodia dwelt upon the importance of Integrated Nutrient Management, Integrated Pest Management and Post Harvest Technology and advised the farmers to increase the use of green manure over chemicals like urea , Amonia and Phospate.
The Inauguration programme was followed by technical sessions on “Integrated Pest Management & Bio-Control in Sugarcane by Dr. B.K Goswami, Director, Amity Centre for Bio Control Pesticides & Pesticides Management(ACBCPDM), “Integrated Nutrient Management in Sugarcane” by Dr. P Bhattacharya, Director, Amity Institute of Bio-Organic Research & Studies(AIBORS), “Production Technologies & Intercropping in Sugarcane” by Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Scientist Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gautam Budh Nagar, “Tips for taking more Production & Income in Sugarcane” by Dr. N.P Singh, Director, ACES.
