Amity honors Arjuna Awardee Parimarjan Negi, the Worlds Youngest Chess Grandmaster with a trophy and a cheque of Rs. 2 Lacs

Amity International Schools, under the able guidance and leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools, have nurtured a lot of prodigies who not only have excelled in their respective areas but have also brought laurels to the entire country by raising the bars of performance every time they compete. Arjuna Awardee Parimarjan Negi, the Worlds Youngest Chess Grandmaster and a student of Amity International School, Saket is one of those stars whose shine has left the entire chess fraternity across the World stupefied.

To acknowledge his exemplary contribution to the world of Chess and felicitate the Chess Prodigy, Parimarjan Negi, a student of Amity International School, Saket, a Grand ceremony was organized at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida

Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan- Chairperson, Amity International Schools, Dr. Ashok Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Ms. Mohina Dar- Sr. Consultant, Amity Schools felicitated the Chess Champion with a glistening trophy and a cheque of Rs. 2 Lacs.

Expressing his happiness over the success of Parimarjan Negi, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan applauded the mind boggling heights he has reached in the field of Chess and averred that one who is good in Chess can achieve anything and everything in life. “Chess nurtures a bundle of virtues in a person – being strategic, analytic, hard working and perseverance. People good in Chess are very successful in their lives,” stressed Dr. Chauhan. Dr. Chauhan wished him luck for all the future National and International Chess Tournaments and Championships.

Sharing his views and happiness over receiving Arjuna Award, Parimarjan Negi said that he is very elated to receive such a prestigious honor at the age of 17 years and the award has a very motivational impact on him. Talking about Chess, Parimarjan said Chess is a game based on war and conquest represented by simplified battlefield of 64 squares. He shared that Chess has taught him a lot of lessons, he has learnt how to face his worst fears and overcome them successfully, he has learnt to take his decisions because in a game of Chess, one is suppose to take decisions very fast and every decision is crucial and determines the real output. Parimarjan acknowledged the immense support extended by his parents, Amity School and teachers in balancing his academic life and his passion for Chess, without which he could not have become a name to reckon in the game of Chess.

Congratulating Parimarjan Negi, Dr. Amita Chauhan expressed that entire Amity fraternity is proud to have produced an Arjuna Awardee and promised that the saga of success sculpted by Parimarjan Negi will be a never ending process. Legions of starry stalwarts will be produced by Amity who would become a source of honor and pride for the country.

About Parimarjan Negi
A student of Amity International School, Saket the child prodigy, Parimarjan Negi joined the esteemed institution in the year 1997 in Class Nursery. The flashes of his genius were discovered when he was just 4 years old. Under the personal guidance and expert advice of the Chairperson, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, the talent of Parimarjan was nurtured by Amity School, Saket. Born on February 19, 1993 Negi registered his maiden success in 2002 when he won the Asian U-10 Championship at Tehran. In July 2005, he scored his third and final IM Norm which made him the World’s Youngest International Master in Chess.

Founder President, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan and Chairperson Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan encouraged Parimarjan whether in terms of monetary help or providing him opportunities to hone his academic excellence. Financial support was extended for his participation in National and International competitions by the school. Rs. 2 Lakhs per year were given to him from Class III onwards and his education was made completely free. Apart from this, the school has been giving him “ Sports Scholarship” from time to time to promote his passion for Chess.

According to FIDE (World Chess Federation) he has been rated No. 2621 in January 2010. Acknowledging his outstanding achievement in the field of Chess, President of India, H. E. Madam Pratibha Patil felicitated Parimarjan Negi with the prestigious Arjuna Award for the year 2010 during a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan last month.
