International Psychology Professional Delegates From USA, Europe & Canada Visit Amity University To Discuss “Confluence Of Cultural Perspective In Applied Psychology"
Amity Institute of Psychology & Allied Sciences (AIPS) and Amity Institute of Behavioural Health & Allied Sciences (AIBHAS) organized a visit of International Psychology Professional delegates comprising of 22 members from the USA, Europe & Canada at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.
The visit was arranged by Mr. Balu Menon, MD, People to People Ambassador Programs (under auspices of people to People International, USA), Gurgaon to address the subjects - “Education and training of psychologists at the undergraduate and graduate levels, Impact of social justice, including culture, race, class and sexual orientation on psychological education, science and practice, Psychological services in the community, including special populations, Role of psychology in healthcare and Psychologys potential contributions to the world peace.”
In his welcome address Dr. Gurinder Singh, Pro Vice Chancellor (International) expressed the importance of Psychology said that “on a scale of 10, atleast 8 people are unsatisfied and everyone needs Psychological help at some stage or the other.
The delegation was led by Dr. Sallie E. Hildebrant, Ph,D, 2010 President – elect, California Psychological Association, who expressed immense joy in being a part of the visit and informed that the People to People Program was founded in 1956. Dr. Hildebrant said “it is important to develop a positive psychology as more money does not buy more happiness”. Apprising the contributions of Psychology Dr. Hildebrant urged the audience to understand that the changes in Public Policies are capable of changing Peoples lives and enhancing their mental health.
During her presentation on AIPS, Prof. Abha Singh, Director AIPS, Acting Head, AIBHAS shared the significance of Preventive & Curative Psychology and the contribution of Behavioural Sciences and said “The Psychology course leads on a journey to establishment of two-fold harmony within oneself and with others living in the world.”
Presentations were made on “Negative impact of violent video games on the young minds” by Dr. Jeanne Helen Brockmyer, Sylvania, Ohio, USA “How to eliminate the taboo of a mental treatment from the society” by Dr. Lucille Pascale, Phoenix, Arizona, USA and “How to develop a proactive attitude in students” by Dr. Alicia Lamberghein, Springfield, Missouri, USA.
The Visit was followed by an interactive session between the delegates, faculty members and students of AIPS and AIBHAS that dwelt on “How to best teach Psychology and how to become better practitioners?” “Main approaches of health psychology and its application in the current scenario”, “ Impact of Behavioural Sciences”, “Career prospects of organizational psychology”, “Movement of games for change” and “Contribution of Psychology to world peace.”
