Amity School of Insurance & Actuarial Sciences organises I.T Workshop

Amity School of Insurance & Actuarial Sciences organized an I.T Workshop, on its 10th Anniversary, at the Amity campus, sector – 125, Noida on September 03, 2010. The IT workshop was conducted by MphasiS, an HP company, which delivers Application services, Infrastructure services and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) services globally through a combination of technology know how domain and process expertise.

The theme of the workshop was presented by Prof. R.R Grover, Director, ASIAS. The workshop was graced by Mr. Rahul Bhagurkar, Business Analyst, MphasiS and Ms. Nandita Shrivastava, Business Analyst, MphasiS. The workshop was attended by faculty and students of ASIAS.

Mr. Rahul Bhagurkar and Ms. Nandita Shrivastava during the session of “Functional Understanding of the US Healthcare” outlined three types of Insurance, namely “The General Insurance”, “Health Insurance”, “Life Insurance”. Mr. Bhagurkar and Ms. Shrivastava in the session defined Health Insurance as “a written agreement wherein for premium payments, the insurance company promises to compensate to policy holder for medical expenses”. They urged the students to understand “Why Health Insurance?” and stated its major benefits such as, It helps afford medical care, Promotes routine & preventive care, Ensures protection against financial hardships as a result of heavy expenses and Peace of mind.

Ms Shrivastava, shared with the students about the Health Insurance being a mammoth expense in the US. The session introduced the types of Health Insurance (The Public Health Insurance, The commercial Health Insurance and The Medicare Health Insurance) to the audience. Mr. Bhagurkar, elaborated on the ‘Public Health Insurance’ and about its schemes and special categorical benefits like the “Medicare- for citizens who are aged 65 or above, Military Health Benefits-, State Children Health Insurance Programme (SCHIP) and Medicaid –Financed by States and Federal Government.

The session incorporated a vivid interaction on the “Private Health Insurance” that chiefly discussed about “Employer Sponsored Insurance/Group Insurance” and “Individual Insurance”. Mr. Bhagurkar and Ms. Shrivastava, shared the knowledge of How Health Insurance Works? The session focused on the Overview of the Relationship between Major Entities (members, payers, purchasers, suppliers and providers).

Mr. Bhagurkar, informed the students about the current picture of the industry where the IT Companies are greatly focusing on Business Intelligence (B.I). The students deeply involved themselves during the session in understanding the Overviews on Medicaid Health Insurance - its special coverage, scopes and programmes (Early & Periodic Screening& Diagnostic Treatment Benefit -EPSDT and State Children Health Insurance programme- SCHIP). The session concluded by making a mention of the Medicaid Eligibility (for people who are below the Federal Poverty Line).

The IT Workshop was followed by conducting further sessions on “Business Processes, The Intricacies For The Areas, Provider Management/ Member Management” and “Inter- Relation Between These Two Areas From A Functional Standpoint”.
