IT experts express concern over growing misuse of IT during “CONFLUENCE - THE NEXT GENERATION INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT
Amity School of Engineering & Technology, Amity University in association with EMC India, leader in Information Infrastructure Solutions started two day “Confluence - The Next Generation Information Technology Summit” at Amity Campus, Sector-125, Noida.
The two day Summit is an initiative to bring together industry and academia to foster innovation by showcasing experiences, ideas, research results and making opportunities in the industry. It focuses on strategies for ‘Information & Storage Management’. The summit serves as a platform to make awareness about the enormity and complexity of challenges in managing and storing information. It further share experiences on new ideas while addressing the increasing use of new emerging technology such as Cloud Computing, Data Centre, Virtualization, Data De-Duplication and their impact on the business.
According to Gartner, the domestic storage software market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13% through 2011, which will make it the fastest growing market in the Asia Pacific. This has resulted in a significant growth in demand for information management professionals.
Welcoming the distinguished gathering, Dr. B Shukla- DG, Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) and Pro VC (A), Amity University, Uttar Pradesh remarked that challenges for Information storage and Management are different therefore different solutions have to be devised to meet the myriad challenges. Growing volume and complexity of data creation makes the management, storage and converge of information very important. Dwelling upon the aim of the Summit, Dr. Shukla said that the Summit seeks new inroads into the next generation technologies, quality enhancement and cost reduction to cater to the changing business scenario.
Inaugurating the Summit, Manoj Chugh, President, India & SAARC, EMC Corporation commented “The combination of complex IT infrastructures and enormous growth in the volume of information to be managed is creating a huge demand for highly skil1ed storage professionals.Our aim at EMC is to bring into the innovation to stream the broadest possible collection of perspectives on handling the information management challenges and enriching business competencies by leveraging emerging technologies”. While interacting with the students of Amity School of Engineering and Technology, he quizzed the students on the growth of GDP affecting the economy of the country and how the role of technology can affect the growth of Information Technology. He expressed his concern about the IT industry as to how to optimize data in a cost effective manner and motivated students to devise new ideas through IT, which can help corporate to economize their budget.
The inauguration was followed by a panel discussion on ‘Technology landscape in India - Is India Inc. ready for the next Era?’ by eminent panelists such as Mr. PK Gupta- Director, BURA, EMC Data Storage Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. , Mr. Rajesh Janey- NTAP and Mr. George Paul- HCL. The discussion was moderated by Mr. Manoj Chugh. Technical sessions unfolded during the day focussed on new emerging technologies such as “Technology Tracks I to VI”, “Cloud Computing: State of Art Data Centres”, “Data De-Duplication and Virtualization” and “Web 2.0: IT & Compliance”.
Mr. Jagdish Mitra Head APAC , Tech Mahindra Ltd outlined the need for information to be sliced, diced and stored, which has become critical. Data are exploding, number of installed servers and applications are growing exponentially, thus a need has arisen to store, retrieve and secure data by cost effective measures, thereby reducing the risks faced by the corporate, opined Mr Mitra.
The summit is attended by senior executives from industry, government and academia including Alok Shrivastava - EMC, Manoj Chugh - EMC, Rajesh Janey – NTAP, George Paul - HCL, Dr SK Gupta - IIT Delhi, Pradeep Kumar - Cyber Media and Dr Chandan Choudhary - IFS India amongst others.
