Dr. Ashok Chaturvedi, Consultant Preventive & Rehabilitative Cardiology, Shanti Mukund Hospital delivered lecture at Amity Law School, AUUP on March 03, 2010. Dr. Chaturvedi presented his talk on the topic "Medical Care and Connected Legal Issues".
Dr. Ashok Chaturvedi, highlighted the need for proper study and evaluation of inter disciplinary issues relating to medicine and law. While addressing the students of Amity Law School, AUUP, Noida Dr. Chaturvedi called for the priority policy formulation in areas of medical ethics and consumer awareness. In a presentation which was interactive, inspiring, and focused on various medico-legal jurisprudence aspects he compared the prevailing norms in other developed regimes.
It is the prime duty of a doctor to protect the life of a patient whether found on road or on hospital bed and laws are there to protect the right of a patient," Dr. Chaturvedi explained in reply to a question to elaborate the various laws to protect the human health in India. He also raised various key issues like "withdrawal & withholding of the life support system and legality of euthentia etc. Medical Negligence was also one of the major issues taken seriously in this session. Earlier while initiating the discussion, Maj Gen. Nilendra Kumar, Director, ALS articulated the constitutional position relating to right to life which is a fundamental right. This right dose not mean mere animal existence but expects a high quality of physical, medical and spritual state.
