Dr Hari S Sharma Shares Research on Possible Treatment of Cardiovascular and Lung Diseases with Genomics & Proteonomics at Amity University

Amity Institute of Space Science & Technology organized the lecture by Dr Hari S. Sharma, Dept. of Pathology, Institute of Cardiovascular Research VUmc,University Medical Centre, Amsterdam, Netherlands, on the topic Genomics & Proteomics – Microarray Technology and Applicationsin Amity Campus, Sector 125, Noida.

The lecture was attended by Dr. S S Aggarwal,Director General, Amity Institute of Pharmacy, Amity University; Dr. R P Singh,Director, Amity Institute of Nanotechnology; Dr. V K Jain, Head, Amity Institute of Advanced Research and Studies and other faculty members.

While introducing the speaker, Dr. S S Aggarwal said that Dr Hari S Sharma is a dedicated researcher and mentor to undergraduate/MD/MSc/PhD students and his area of research includes: Molecular Mechanisms of angiogenesis underlying the Pathogenesis of Heart and Lung Diseases. Dr. Sharma has organized 16 International Conferences/Symposia, delivered 162 invited lectures worldwide and has been bestowed with 9 Awards/Medals.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Hari S Sharma explained the classification and clinical applications of genomics and proteonomics. He said that in the present time, many Indians suffer from cardiovascular and lung diseases and his team is conducting research on understanding the genes of the diseases for better treatment. He further said that it is very important to understand the human cardiovascular system and according to his research carried out in 90s, the growth factor could be stimulated to speed the process, making the heart to heal itself.

He also discussed on how a change in single gene can change the machinery of the human mechanism citing his research which is based on the reaction of genes with change in mechanism of human heart and lungs. Dr. Sharma also mentioned that his research is human based and not animal based.

The lecture was followed by a discussion session with the participants.
