Amity University confers Honorary Doctorate Degree upon Prof. Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor, University of Northampton, UK

Amity University organized a “Special Convocation” and awarded Honorary Doctorate Degree to Prof. Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor, University of Northampton, UK during a Ceremony held at Amity University Campus, Sector- 125, Noida.

Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh declared the Special Convocation open and conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degree in the benign presence of Dr. (Mrs.) Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University and Dr. Gurinder Singh, Group Additional Vice Chancellor – Amity University.

Dr Ian Brooks, Executive Dean for Internationalization & Partnerships, Dr Mairi Watson, Deputy Dean, Northampton Business School and Mr. Punnet Malhotra – Regional Director, South Asia were also present during the occasion.

 

Prof. Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor, University of Northampton, UK was conferred Degree of Doctor of Science (D. Sc.) Honoris Causa for his exceptional vision, deep commitment to research, propagation of scientific enquiry, continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology for the benefit in academics. With more than 250 scientific papers written in journals of repute, Prof. Petford has strategic vision and leadership qualities. Prof. Nick Petford, a former Royal Society University Research Fellow and Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge, has held visiting research appointments at the Universities of Michigan and Vermont (USA) and NASA and is currently visiting Professor at Macquarie University (Australia). He is also special consultant for BBC and Channel 4. 

Delivering his acceptance speech, Prof. Nick Petford, Vice Chancellor, University of Northampton, UK stated that he had left the school at the age of 16 and had no intensions to go for University. At age of 22, he understood the true meaning of education and joined University for higher studies. That was the turning point which transformed his life. Sharing his views to the students of Amity University, Prof. Petford said that they should take full advantage of the opportunities which they get while studying in the University. Education can transform the life of a person. He further added that student must inculcate values which are derived from education. Prof. Petford said that education can transform and develop an individual who can serve the society and nation. Speaking on the relations with Amity University, Prof. Petford said that meaning of Amity is friendship and University of Northampton, UK will like to develop this friendship and collaboration further which can help students of both countries.

Delegation from University of Northampton, UK visited Amity Innovation Incubator, Amity University Online, Laboratories and other facilities.  During their visit a film “The Volcano that Stopped Britain” made with contribution by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nick Petford was also shown to the audience. 

 

Senior Officials, faculty members and students of Amity Business School, Amity International Business School, Amity Global Business School were present during the occasion.
