Three Day 65th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress begins at Amity University
Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) is organized annually by the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA), which is a Federation of Five National Pharmaceutical Associations, namely, Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Indian Pharmacy Graduates’ Association (IPGA), Indian Hospital Pharmacists' Association (IHPA), Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI) and All India Drug Control Officers’ Confederation (AIDCOC). The 65th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress 2013 is being hosted by the IPGA at Amity University Noida from December 20-22, 2013.
The three day Indian Pharmaceutical Congress (IPC) was inaugurated by Dr. V.M. Katoch, Secretary - Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Director General - Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr. G.N. Singh – Drugs Controller General of India, Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa, President of Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group & Chief Patron of IPC, Mr. S.B. Shashank, Special Secretary Health – Government of Delhi and Shri R.C. Juneja, Chairman – cum- Managing Director - Mankind Pharma at Main Ground, Amity University Campus, Sector-125 Noida.
H.E. Daulat Kuany Shev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan, Mr. Atul Chauhan, Chancellor – Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor – Amity University Rajasthan, Mr. Ajay Chauhan, Trustee – Ritnand Balved Education Foundation, Prof. S.S. Agrawal, Chairman Scientific Committee and Pro Vice Chancellor – Amity University were also present during the occasion.
While presenting the inaugural address, Dr. V.M. Katoch, Secretary - Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Director General - Indian Council of Medical Research said that there are very few professions which are linked with the future of the country and pharmacy is one of the noble professions. He added that thousands of students are trained out by getting diplomas or degrees but they are disheartened to find less employment opportunities in this field. Dr. Katoch said that pharmacy qualified students are giving service to the society but some how the importance of this profession is not inherited in them. Pharmacy graduate can be value addition to the doctor, patient and society. He raised concern about the implementation of the suggestion during seminars in the practical aspects of pharmacy and suggested that corporates must work closely with the academicians in pharmacy sector.
He advised pharmacy students to be more analytical and conduct more researches.
Dr. G.N. Singh – Drugs Controller General of India said that Pharma sector will be the driving force for the Indian Economy in this century. Addressing the budding pharmacists, Dr. Singh said that you all have to meet the expectations of 1.2 billion population of India. Dr. Singh said that India is exporting medicines to more then 200 countries. He wished that Indian Drug Regulator should become International Drug Regulator in next few years.
Dr. Ashok K Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group & Chief Patron of IPC said that it is a matter of immense pleasure that the historical event of the 65th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress, 2013 (IPC) is being organized by Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA), at the Amity University. Dr. Chauhan said that for growth and development of any nation, the health and wellness of its people is the most important aspect. India is now being recognized globally as a fast emerging economic power and the innovative and creative brains of its citizens are being applauded and recognized all over the world. Dr. Chauhan added that in recent years, the profession of Pharmacy has shown exponential growth. In the current changing global scenario, harmonization of regulations in conformance with international norms and practice is the need of the hour.
Mr. S.B. Shashank, Special Secretary Health – Government of Delhi said that when our country got independence, few years later Indian Pharmaceutical Congress was started which shows the strength and importance of the Pharma industry. Mr. Shashank said that it our duty to see the requirements of our society. Such a huge population is suffering from one or other disease and that’s where affordable and good quality medicines are needed.
While presenting the Presidential address Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa, President of Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association said that the empowerment of pharmacists is an entirely new perspective and that’s why the theme of this year congress is chosen as Pharma Vision 2020 – Empowering Pharmacist. Mr. Nasa said that there are four major fields of pharmacy profession: Pharmacy Education, Pharmaceutical Industry, Regulatory and Pharmacy Practice. Mr. Nasa said that today we are having more than 1500 institutions imparting different levels of pharmacy education. While talking about pharmaceutical industry, Mr. Nasa said that Indian stand 3rd in the volume of production of drugs and 14th in value. He added that by year 2015, prescription drugs worth about US $ 300 billion are expected to go off patent which can provide a great opportunity to India.
Inaugural session was followed by inauguration of Pharmaceutical Expo2013 wherein More than 180 Exhibitors are showcasing their new products & technologies.
An immensely useful Online Job Portal has been introduced for the first time for the benefit of Pharmacy students. Executives of several pharmaceutical companies are interviewing students for placement. There is an overwhelming response to this initiative and it is going to provide an excellent platform to a large number of deserving students.
Film Actress Jaya Prada inaugurated the musical cultural night wherein Singer Aditya Narayan (Son of Singer Udit Narayan) and Priya Patel mesmerized the audience with their performances.
Around 5000 National & International Delegates are participating in the 65th IPC from different Pharmaceutical fields viz. Pharmaceutical Industry, Pharmacy Educational Institutions, Hospital, Community and Clinical Pharmacy, Drugs Control Department, Marketing, Regulatory and Research and Development.
The main focus of the IPC includes Memorial Lectures, Symposia and Plenary Lectures by prominent Speakers from India and abroad, which include speakers from USA, UK, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, UAE and Netherlands. In addition to this research Scholars and scientists from various Pharmacy colleges and research laboratories present around 1700 Research papers and Review Articles in different specialisation of Pharmacy.
At the conclusion of the IPC, resolutions are passed after deliberations in an open session on the matters of concern to the profession of pharmacy.
Besides scientific lectures and poster presentations, a Pharmaceutical Expo is being organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) focusing on Pharmaceutical Plant and Machinery. There will be around 200 Exhibitors participating in the exhibition out of which 15 Companies are participating from Germany, USA, Korea, Japan, China and Switzerland.
