Dr. Mamdouh Shoukri -President of York University, Toronto, Canada conferred with Honorary Doctoral Degree in Science (D.Sc.) by Amity University
It was a memorable day for Amity University, Uttar Pradesh when Dr. Mamdouh Shoukri -President of York University, Toronto, Canada was conferred with Honorary Doctoral Degree in Science (D.Sc.) for his exceptional vision, deep commitment to research, propagation of scientific enquiry and continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology.
Both Universities also signed a Letter of Intent to foster and strengthen the mutual relationship and facilitate the exchange of teaching and research expertise leading to the benefit of Human Resources in India and Canada
The Letter of Intent will facilitate mutual research, exchange of Academic information, Faculty members, students and study programs. It will include training of and visits by faculty members of both the Universities, Internship programmes for the students, Joint Workshops and Faculty Development Programmes in the areas of mutual interests.
During the visit, a “Special Convocation” was organized to felicitate Dr. Mamdouh Shoukri -President of York University, Toronto, Canada with
Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh declared the Convocation open.
Addressing the gathering during the occasion, Dr. W Selvamurthy-President, Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) said that Indo- Canadian cooperation is increasing in all the strategic areas such a health, energy, agriculture and others. He remarked that the association between Amity University and York University would be a golden leaf in the history of Amity and York University, which will benefit the human resources of the entire globe. He outlined numerous similarities that exist between both the institutions of excellence which would help them to work together with concerted efforts including the vibrant culture, key objective to serve the mankind students, research orientation, faculty etc.

Delivering his acceptance speech, Dr. Mamdouh Shoukri -President of York University, Toronto, Canada expressed his pleasure and privilege in accepting the honor bestowed upon him by Amity. He opined that in today’s interconnected world, internationalization is of strategic importance and progressive educational institutions across the Globe have to commit themselves to the mission of internationalization. 21st century learning institutions have to continue evolving and reflect the needs of society. The need of the hour is shared knowledge. Educational institutes across the globe have the responsibility to produce new knowledge and transform that knowledge into new products which could benefit the society and support the cause of social welfare. In such an interconnected world, expert knowledge is not enough; we need socially, culturally and ethnically diverse human resources which could be trained by progressive institutions. He shared that York University offers ideal environment for research and is looking forward to advance the limits of education through building on new relationships. He stressed that he is looking forward to mutually benefitting relationship with Amity University in areas such as faculty exchange, joint research and publications, joint programmes, recruitment etc. and expressed that together, Amity and York University would develop the leaders of tomorrow
Speaking during the occasion, Dr, Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group congratulated the recipient of the Honoris Causa Degree and offered him to accept Honorary Professorship in Amity University. Dr. Chauhan shared his vision and mission of making Amity one of the top educational institutions of the world and stressed that the association between York University and Amity University will be remembered for ages owing to the fruitful results that the association will lead to.
During his visit, Dr. Mamdough Shoukri was accompanied by a High Level Delegation comprising of 9 members from York University, Toronto, Canada including Dr. Robert Hache, Vice President York University; Dr. Martin Singer, Dean Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies; Dr. Harvey Skinner, Dean Faculty of Health and Dr. Janusz Kozinski, Dean Lassonde School of Engineering.
