Dr. S. Ayyappan-Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE) visits Amity University

Dr. S. Ayyappan-Secretary, Department of Agriculture Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), New Delhi visited Amity University to interact with Research Scholars, Scientists and faculty members of Amity University, Noida

 

During the occasion, Dr. Ayyappan was conferred Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science by Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group and Mr. Aseem Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan.

 

Accepting the honor bestowed upon him and sharing his thoughts, Dr. Ayyappan applauded the immense R&D initiatives taken at Amity University with special reference to agriculture. Quoting Former Prime Minister, Late Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru, he said that “everything else can wait but certainly not the agriculture.” He opined that in near future, India will face challenges as far as availability of Food, Feed, Fodder, Fiber and Fuel is concerned. No state would be able to export food grains after 2050 since the self-sufficiency itself would become difficult. He called upon the gathering to save natural resources and promote aforestation and conservation of environment, soil, land and water bodies. He advised Scientists and Researchers to indulge in frugal research in agriculture so that the benefits of the research reach to the farmers working in the fields. “High quality research needs to be carried in the field of agriculture to improve the quality of Indian agriculture; newer innovative methods such as Sensor based and computer based applications should be devised and used in agriculture sector.” advised Dr. Ayyappan.

 

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group said that brains of Indian Scientists and Researchers are incomparable. He convinced that the innovative research ideas pointed out by Dr. Ayyappan would be worked upon by scientists and researchers at Amity and doable results would be produced in a short span of time.

 

Dr W Selvamurthy, President (Hony.), Amity Science, Technology and Innovation Foundation (ASTIF) briefed Dr. Ayyapan with various R&D initiatives going on in Amity in association with Government and non- Government bodies.

 

During the visit, Dr. Ayyappan was taken around the campus and shown impressive infrastructure, state of the art laboratories, Central Library, and Amity Innovation Incubator.
