Amity University welcomes Research Scholars during the Orientation Ceremony
Amity University – A Research & Innovation based University, famous for its world class infrastructure and multidimensional programs attracts students from all over the world who come to define their career paths. The much sought after doctoral programs at Amity University this year attracted thousands of applicants for different doctoral programs and after rigorous screening process of written examination, interview and board interview, 87 were selected to enroll for the Doctoral courses in various streams like Management, Journalism, Travel & Tourism, Law and Science.
The program was attended by Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Acting Vice Chancellor – Amity University, Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Dean – Faculty of Management Studies & Dean – Examinations, Dr. Sunil Saran, Senior Vice President- Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation and Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President - Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation.
Welcoming the scholars, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Acting Vice Chancellor – Amity University said that at Amity we are passionate about grooming leaders who are not only thorough professionals but also good human beings with values and sanskars. Dr. Shukla added that only the best of the students get admission in Amity and the candidates selected for doctoral programs are handpicked after going through rigorous admission process. “Amity University is students centric, therefore the onus of learning lies with the students. We believe in application orientation, industry orientation and employability of the scholars”. She further advised scholars to do research which is non repetitive and which would help the industry in future.
Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, Dean – Faculty of Management Studies & Dean – Examinations said that doctoral programs are very different and unique from post graduate and professional programs. One has to broaden the knowledge horizon while concentrating on the research topic. Doctoral students have to seek the directions of their guides. While emphasizing on the basic traits of doctoral studies, Dr. Srivastava said that they should be hard working, punctual in submitting reports, honest toward their work, dedicated, good listener, have patience and good control on their emotions. Dr. Srivastava added that Amity will provide all the requirements that are needed in completing the doctoral like laboratories, library, faculty but eventually it is the student who has to complete the research in due time.
While speaking on patents and their importance, Dr. W. Selvamurthy, President - Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation said that the present century is the century of knowledge. We all have to contribute for the development of our country so that by year 2020 our country should be super power in terms of economy, military and knowledge. Dr. Selvamurthy said that there are four components of intellectual property which include patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret. Patent is the monopoly given by the Government to protect your knowledge. He cautioned, that one can not patent law of nature, ideas and hypothesis.
Dr. Sunil Saran, Senior Vice President- Amity Science Technology & Innovation Foundation said that doctoral course is like creation of knowledge. He added that during the research work, one will get all sorts of junk data, but the individual has to decide to use only relevant data. Researcher should always evaluate himself with no negative thoughts.
During the occasion Dr. Tushar K. Nath, Director – Legal & Compliance, Brig V.K. Kashyap, Jt. Controller of Examination, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Asst Registrar also briefed the students about the course and different procedures.
