Amity University confers 4,474 Degrees/ Diplomas on graduands during the second day of “9th Convocation 2013”

Amity University has organized “9th Convocation 2013” for three consecutive days- December 5- 7, 2013 wherein a total of 9,827 successfully qualified Graduands of several Programs would receive their UG and PG Degrees, Diplomas, Trophies and Medals.

 

During the second day of Convocation, over 4, 474 graduands from 33 Institutions of Amity including Amity Institute of Physiotherapy, Amity School of Communications, Amity Institute of Education, Amity School of Fine Arts, Amity Law School and others gathered at Amity University to receive their much awaited Degrees/Diplomas. Graduands, clad in beautiful black robes with caps and coloured scarves representing their different programmes, presented a beautiful picture.

 

Directorate of Distance and Online Education, Amity University held its “4th Virtual Convocation” for 1250 graduands located in Africa, enrolled under Pan African e- Network Project with Amity. 26 Universities of Africa located in Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Sudan, Somalia, Niger, Madagascar, Rwanda and others participated. The African Graduands were awarded Post Graduate Degrees/Diplomas in the area of Management, Finance, IT and French Language. A Senior Delegation from Africa comprising of Mr. Benjamin TSAMBA PONGUI from Gabon, Mr. Joseph M. SSEMWOGERERE , PAeNP Coordinator from Uganda, Mr. Sharad Gamir from Sudan and others attended the Virtual Convocation at Amity University.

 

The eloquent Convocation ceremony commenced with the Procession of Trustees of the Board, Senior Members of the Management, Head of the Institutions, Departmental Heads and Senior Faculty members, led by the band of pipers.

 

Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh declared the 9th Convocation open.

 

Dr. Balvinder Shukla- Vice Chancellor, Amity University Uttar Pradesh  welcomed the august gathering and presented a brief report of the University.

 

Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group, Mr. Atul Chauhan- Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh felicitated Dr. Anil Kakodkar- Eminent Nuclear Scientist and DAE Homi Bhabha Chair Professor in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) with Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science (D.Sc.) for his exceptional vision, deep commitment to research, propagation of scientific enquiry, continuous exemplary efforts in innovating and improving technology.

 

Giving the acceptance speech, Dr. Anil Kakodkar expressed his gratitude for being conferred upon Honorary Doctorate Degree. Sharing his views on the importance of education, Dr. Kakodkar said that education is one of the most important tools for empowerment of people living in cities and villages. He acknowledged that in a large country like India there is a problem to reach everyone and adding to it, is the vast variety of people in terms of their interests, aptitudes etc. He stressed on the importance of the entry of non- Government entities into the education industry and do what Government entities are not able to do. He stressed that Education has three layers- first, it enables a person to learn from the lowest level all the way to the frontiers of knowledge, second, it facilitates the implementation of procedural skills and third, it helps in acquiring relevant skills. All these three layers of education exist in holistic learning environment, which is provided by Amity University.

Responding to the query on what is lacking in Indian Research, the Great scientist responded that Indians work as individuals and not as teams. Those who are teaching think that doing research simultaneously would affect their teaching efficiency and those doing research, think that simultaneously teaching would take away their concentration and focus from research work. He suggested that teaching and research has to be aligned to enrich the quality of research and teaching. He also called for educational institutes to work together with industry to mutually benefit each other and progress.

 

Blessing the graduands, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan- Founder President, Amity Group shared with them the mantra of success which he lucidly explained through the acronym “BHAAG” where B stands for Behavioral Science, H stands for Hardwork with Strategy, A for Attitude, another A for Ambition and G for God. He called upon the graduands to learn the mantra of BHAAG by heart and implement in their lives. He motivated them to have confidence in themselves through which they can achieve anything and everything.

 

During the convocation, Corporate Awards were presented to the best performers of the Institutes. “Shri Data Ram Shingalji Shield” was awarded to Maitri Bardaloi from Amity Law School – Noida.

 

3 Phd. Degrees were awarded and the proud recipients were Col S P Singh- a Senior Citizen and one of the most experienced academician, Ms Geet Oberoi and Mr. Ramesh Parajuli

 

During the day, 7 Graduands were felicitated with “Best All Round Student Award”, 46 were awarded Gold Medals, 45 were given Silver Medals, 18 were given Bronze Medals and 29 were conferred Salvers.
