Maha Kumbh revisited through the lenses – An Exhibition of Photographs by Mr. Pavan Mahatta & Mr Inder Gopal concludes at Arpana Caur Gallery New Delhi

The Maha Kumbh is held every 12 years on the banks of Sangam, at the confluence of the holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati in Allahabad. It is a dream for any photographer to shoot there as it is an amazing spectacle of the world’s largest gathering of people at a single point.

 

To bring back the aura of grand spectacle i.e. Maha Kumbh through the lenses and to recreate the experience, ace photographers Mr. Pavan Mahatta and Mr. Inder Gopal held a Photographic exhibition titled “Maha Kumbh 2013 which was concluded today at Arpana Caur Gallery, Siri Fort Institutional Area, Delhi. The Exhibition was held from October 22 – 28, 2013.

 

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President – Amity Group was the Chief Guest during the occasion. Ms. Divya Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity School of Fine Arts & Amity School of Fashion Technology was also present during the occasion.

 

Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President – Amity Group said that that the selection of images displayed is the experience gathered through the lenses at the Maha Kumbh by the photographer duo. Each picture is a visual delight and one can feel the presence of positive energy in these images.

 

Photographer Mr. Inder Gopal said that with multitude of photographers shooting there, it is a challenge to be different and show your experience at this amazing gathering of humanity. To make a choice of Images to display was the most difficult task. Through the pictures we have tried to bring about the divine presence of a force unknown to humanity.

 

About Mr. Inder Gopal
Mr. Inder Gopal was born in 1946 in Delhi. He learnt and worked under an Industrial, Fashion Products photographer Mr. Detlev van Eupen from the early 1970s till his return in late 1977. He has worked on all formats of photography from 35mm to 8x10, and in colour and B/W darkrooms. People, Monuments, Street, etc photography have been of interest to him all his life. He has worked as a freelance photo reporter on call for the local newspaper Cellesche Zeitung of city Celle, Germany.

 

About Mr. Pavan Mahatta
Pavan Mahatta (Mehta) was born in 1959 in New Delhi in a family of photographers. The Mahatta studios have a distinguished history as one of the biggest and most well known family-run studios in North India. Pavan is a Chartered Accountant by education. He joined the family’s Delhi studio upon finishing his chartered accountancy in 1984 and introduced digital imaging in 1986 for the first time in India along with his brother Pankaj Mahatta. Pavan works across all genres of photography i.e. portraiture, industrial, architectural, nature, landscapes and commercial photography.
