Amity School of Communication celebrates 'World Safer Internet Day'

A panel discussion was held in Amity School of Communication, Amity University, on the occasion of World Safer Internet Day and was jointly hosted with Media for Change, Nixi (National Internet Exchange, India) & IGF.  The aim was to involve young students of Amity University and emerging student leaders and key persons from the Government, Industry leaders, Academia and Civil Society in writing the Digital Agenda for India with key voices from the civil society & the government. 

Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar (MP - Rajya Sabha), Mr. Virat Bhatia (Chairman, FICCI Communications & Digital Economy Committee & President, IEA, South Asia, AT&T), Ms. Ankhi Das  (Head of Public Policy, Facebook India), Dr Govind ( CEO, National Internet Exchange of India), Mr. Santosh G. Ajmera (Asst. Director, New Media Wing, Ministry for information & Broadcatingand  Subi Chaturvedi (Founder,  Media for Change) were the key panelists.

The esteemed panelists spoke on emergence of internet in India, its current scenario and its impact on the society at large. With the escalating popularity and usability of the Internet, issues like Internet security or Internet safety were discussed. Students were guided on how to evade attempts by hackers, spammers, pedophiles (online predators) and cyber-terrorists who are lurking on the Internet in search of easy prey.

 

India is an important country for Facebook and the growth of the Internet and connectivity across the country raises many interesting and complex issues of public policy and regulation.  Principles for social media usage and self – responsibility of the user were also brought to light in this discussion.
