Amity University organises Panel Discussion on “Courageous Me-A Step Forward to Fearless Future
Amity Women Help Desk and Department of Students Welfare organized a Panel Discussion on “Courageous Me-A Step Forward to Fearless Future at I-2 Moot Court Hall, Amity University Campus, Sector-125 Noida.
Prof. Sherman, Globally Acclaimed Psychologist, Brazil, Smt. Varsha Das, Writer & Gandhian, Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, Sr. Advocate Supreme Court, Dr. Deepali Kapoor, Apollo Hospital, Ms. Poonam ACP, Faridabad, Mr. Anthony Raju, Chairman – All India Council of Human Rights, Prof. Abha Singh, Dean Faculty of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences Amity University were part of panel discussion.
While welcoming the panelists, Prof. Abha Singh, Dean Faculty of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences Amity University said that today is the day we can not forget. The hurt, abuse, negative emotions united us and that’s why we are remembering the brave heart. Prof. Singh said that we have to work together to find out issues and their solutions. Prof. Singh added that two factors which can help in combating all abuse are – Courage and Will Power. Women have to remember these two factors every time. Prof. Singh said that participation of men is equally important in stopping crime against women.
Prof. Sherman, Globally Acclaimed Psychologist, Brazil said that in the era of information technology one should understand the power of information. Prof. Sherman said that Brazil was the first country in world in 1985 when women controlled Police Station was set up because only woman will understand another woman better in all women related issues. Prof. Sherman advised women to have courage and conscious to defend for any type of abuse.
Ms. Meenakshi Lekhi, Sr. Advocate Supreme Court said that currently the whole focus of the country is on Nirbhaya case and dealing women with dignity. Ms. Lekhi said that we have stood by cultural erosion many times. There were times when no cases of rape were recorded and now we see the cases of brutality like of Nirbhaya. Ms. Lekhi added that in Nirbhaya case, media played very positive role. It helped in building public opinion. The right to free media is not only the right of victim but also the right of accused for free and fair trial. Ms. Lekhi said “we are the sage of the world and we don’t need anyone to guide us. We have come from brave generation to generation of coward which fear in protecting women in public”.
Ms. Poonam ACP, Faridabad said that that we need to change the mindset of people and society. The beginning should be from all of us. While talking about Nirbhaya case, Ms. Poonam said that the whole anger was against police functioning. Faridabad Police have initiated campaign for safe city for women in Faridabad. Female police force is being posted at strategic locations like colleges, market, railway station, bus station etc. Apart from this Faridabad Police is also briefing ladies about their rights and legal provisions.
Dr. Nirupma Prakash, Director Amity Institute of Social Sciences, Prof. Marshal Sahni, Dean – Department of Student Welfare, Dr. Ravi Prakash, Director – Amity School of Engineering & Technology were also present during the occasion.
